Mac and Jake in Hawaii

Post by SeattleParrotHead »

I haven't seen this mentioned anywhere yet....

JAKE SHIMABUKURO & MAC McANALLY - Celebrating Songs & Stories on Distant Shores
Celebrating Songs & Stories on Distant Shores will be an intimate evening celebrating friendship through stories and songs.
ʻUkulele master, Jake Shimabukuro and renowned songwriter, singer, and instrumentalist, Mac McAnally are longtime kindred spirits and collaborators.

In addition to their own formattable careers, Jake and Mac first performed together with the legendary JIMMY BUFFETT in the Coral Reefer Band. This special performance will include material and collaboration from both artists in addition to select songs you know by heart to honor their friend and mentor.

Feb 5 & 6 at Blue Note Hawaii (Waikiki), Feb 7 in Waimea (Big Island), Feb 8 at Maui Cultural Center, and Feb 9th in Kilauea (Kauai). 🌴

I just looked on Mac's webpage and the 5 dates are listed there.

I just got notice that they are going to stream both shows so that you can watch them from the comfort of your own couch (for $25):

Great show! I teared up a couple of times but didn’t bawl as I feared I would.

I cried like a baby when I saw Mac in October. It was cathartic.

Curious as to what the setlist was. I would think it would be awesome. With some great stories thrown in.

Too much to type on an iphone... I'll try to do a recap in a few days when I'm back home at my computer. A woman at the table next to us last night had a go-pro on a tripod and recorded the whole thing (I think) so it might show up on youtube.

Here's my best shot at a set list (not necessarily in chronological order):

Jake – (with Jackson Waldhoff on bass guitar)
While My Guitar Gently Weeps, Bohemian Rhapsody, and two others
Jake introduced Mac and left the stage,
Mac –
Changing Channels
Down the Road
Back Where I Come From
Better on Account of You (at the piano)
Jake and Jackson return -
Little Martha
Heard It Through the Grapevine (at one point playing guitar and piano at the same time)
Somewhere Over the Rainbow/Grapefruit Juicy Fruit mashup (?)
Tonight I Just Need My Guitar (1st night only)
It’s My Job
Come Monday
Margaritaville
A Pirate Looks at Forty
Volcano (Encore)
The last four songs were all audience participation.
At the end of APLAF, Mac looked skyward and said “You hear that Jimmy? They’re singing your song.” The tears that had been welling up in my eyes finally made their escape and ran down my cheeks.

A hodgepodge of video from the two nights:
