That's true changing channels. I noticed that jimmy's voice didn't sound that great either. I like FSOTW a whole lot and IMO one of the best songs on there is FSOTW, and Jimmy wrote it.

Incredible. I spent quite a few hours in the car this past Friday and this album had popped in my head. I decided to put it on as I probably haven’t listened to it in over 15 years (call me old-fashioned, I still use an old school iPod. I like it better than using a phone for music). Unfortunately I started receiving a few calls and didn’t have a chance to really give it the attention I had wanted to. I actually searched out this thread because I wanted to read what others had to say about this album and I wanted to share my own story about it. Low and behold, I was shocked to discover that it was released exactly 25 years ago to the day (Friday). I can’t even comprehend that it has been so long. It has never been one of my favorite Buffett albums, not even close, but I’ve always had good memories of it. I was 22 and living in a college apartment in Boston at the time, where I had been living for about 2 1/2 years. In that time I had never really ventured out of the city. For some reason I decided to take public transportation out to the suburbs (The Braintree Mall for those that are interested) with the sole purpose of buying this CD. I think I bought it at a Circuit City or Best Buy. For some reason I wasn’t able to find my way back to the subway station and I wound up taking a taxi to a commuter train station where I had to wait for almost two hours for a train back to the city. It wound up being an all day excursion and quite a hassle, but I’ll always remember it. One of my roommates at the time was a big Parrothead also, so we used to play it quite a bit. We also saw Jimmy at Camden that summer and I remember him playing some of the songs (I seem to recall Pacing the Cage and Flesh and Bone). It’s one of those albums that has more to do with the time and place than the actual music itself (Christmas Island is a huge one for me for that same reason). I’m definitely going to give it a listen in the next few days and relive some memories.

One of the things I am finding now is that I am often reminding myself of where I was when I first heard an album. It is great to be able to recall a chapter in my life and associate it with his music.

The funny thing is, if you said, "where were you when ______ album came out?" I probably could not answer the question. But put the album on and bang, there's the answer.

The albums are now, more than ever, like mental time machines.

The power of music, my friend! I think it has a lot to do with the fact that music is often in the background while we are doing other things. Unlike a movie which would be taking all of our concentration. We remember having conversations to music, arguing, making out, etc…
