Oven-baked chicken and zucchini with coconut oil. Baked at 280 degrees. It took longer, but I enjoyed that hint of coconut taste.

Thanks, I was so into that run on Saturday I could just remember every second of it. A guy I know told me to just find a good lookin' gal and follow her and that's just pretty much how this one went.

Re: HEALTHY LIVING
We did the MLB All-Star 5K and fun run last Saturday. It was crazy. Lot's of athletes, I made the mistake of getting in line for my medal and didn't get it from my hero from the time I could pick up a baseball, George Brett. But we had a great time. My brother in law and I did the 5K, my Mom, sister, nephew and niece did the fun run.
They said this was the biggest All-Star 5K, there had to be close to 10,000 people there. We got done with the 5K, got our medal and dashed across the side streets and actually caught up with my sister and nephew. It was good we did the 5K for running by the time my Em and Bryson got to the finish line it was so packed people were just creeping to the through the finish line.
My sister saw a guy from Desperate Housewives staying on their floor for the softball game.

Re: HEALTHY LIVING
Thanks, it was a lot of fun.
Here's the man getting ready for his run.

My sister standing outside the room of the guy from Desperate Housewives.

Mom and I did the Glow Run on Saturday night. I would have like to had more people join us, but it was a pain in the ass! There were over 5500 people there. We were there 3 hours ahead of time, and it was a good thing, who knows how far we would have had to walk to get there. It took forever once they started, there were runners on the course for 30 minutes before we started.
And there was every shape and size there, I give it to the people, like I used to be, I wouldn't have done it, but what bothered me was all the people already on the course walking. Fat or fit, didn't matter. They asked that you go in the last wave if your are walking. I got out there and just started passing people immediately.
And there were groups of people walking together. I was running over medians, through the grass and jumping cones. The course doubled back so you could only run on one side. And it was the fastest course I have run all year, I could have easily set a personal best.
And when we got back to the finish I was probably in line for another 30 minutes getting water and a medal. There was only water station, this was setup by a big running company and it was a mess.

It's awesome for baking (which is counterproductive for this thread, but still).

Re: HEALTHY LIVING
Did a "5K" this morning, came about .05 of a mile short. It's not an official race, it's always run on the same day as Susan Komen in KC. Not a big race, small town, not a lot of people, not a lot of runners. It's a great course, couple of decent hills, run around a lake. I started out around the front, I was in second for the first mile, and cruised into the lead shortly after that and kept a great pace until the end, finishing a nice distance ahead of the second place finisher. Pretty pumped up by that, like I said not big, but a 1st place finish is a 1st place finish.

Re: HEALTHY LIVING
Congrats on your special 5K!!

Re: HEALTHY LIVING
Wow! This thread is full of inspiration. I need to make it a daily stop. Y'all are awesome! And I truly mean that, I'm not just throwing that word around.
So, last week I decided I really needed to make a few changes. Nothing big, just small ones to start. Gave myself the weekend to get it together and started on Monday. As of this morning, I was already down 3 lbs. Been wearing my pedometer and counting my steps. I've been getting in anywhere from 12,000 - 17,000 a day. My walk from and to the train station helps and I've gotten that down to a very brisk walk (without running over other people during the rush hour)
This week I've added an hour walk to my routine in the evening after supper and want to start alternating that with riding my bike.
I've always drank a lot of water, so that's never really been a problem, I've been averaging about 100oz a day. I used to allow myself one diet coke a day, if I wanted one, but I eliminated that completely several months ago, so sodas are completely gone now. And as much as I love beer, and you all know I do
,it's not something I drink everyday, hell there are times when I go weeks without drinking one. I have, however, developed a liking to Moscato, so I do have to watch that. But now we come to the problem.... coffee. My biggest weakness! I'm usually good with one cup in the morning before I leave for the train, but a lot of times I find myself really wanting a cup in the afternoon or sometimes at night when I'm just vegging... just because. I'm gonna have to work on that one, as I'd really like to keep the caffeine to a minimum. I also eliminated artificial sweetner from my diet (another reason I completely gave up the diet coke) and interestingly, no migraines since then. I know everyone is different, but I'm completely done with that crap. For what little bit of sugar I use, I'd rather just use the real thing.
One of the other changes I've made, more fruit in the mornings. Also, I left my good juicer in Texas when we moved, and I miss it. I miss my apple/celery/spinach juice in the morinings. My son is bringing it (and my guitar!) up here for me when they come visit next month, so YAY!
And again, more veggies, veggies, veggies.
One drawback for me, however, is when I have to travel. I need to look for alternate ways to keep as close to my routine as possible. It seems these days I end up wasting a whole day at the airport traveling to my destination and another coming back.
Still so much to work on, but it's a start. Thanks again to everyone who posts in this thread. So much good stuff here.![hearts [smilie=hearts.gif]](./images/smilies/hearts.gif)

Re: HEALTHY LIVING
My wife and I joined a gym that's close to our house. We'd been contemplating it for a while and so far we like it.
I finally got the reality check I needed a couple weeks ago at Busch Gardens when I was too big for a roller coaster harness to fully close and I had to be moved to one for bigger folks.
Actually happened on 2 rides.

One of the things I hear a lot of people talking about is a burpee or a squat thrust. I've been doing them for a while now. You can do them anywhere. Some of the running/workouts I have been doing have incorporated them together. I want have any equipment with me next week, so I'll just be doing them in my hotel room.

Sorry to hear about that, but definitely use it to push you. I'm still thinking about things from a long time ago to keep me motivated.sonofabeach wrote:My wife and I joined a gym that's close to our house. We'd been contemplating it for a while and so far we like it.

Re: HEALTHY LIVING
I've been meaning to mention the workout I have been doing. It's kettlebells, The Skogg System. It's a great workout, you can do power or cardio. The best part is that it's only six moves, not much longer than 30 minutes. I've become a big fan of it, my biceps have seen more improvement from that workout than a lot of other workouts.
That last race has been pushing me. I've been running a lot faster than I have in the past. A lost faster than I ever thought I could. I've broken my best mile time, I ran 5.5 miles in 47 minutes the other day.
After that last one, I wasn't planning on running anymore until October. We're doing a Monster Dash which sounds like fun. Dressing up in Halloween costumes. I'm doing a 10K in September and in early October we are doing the Color Run.
After Labor Day, I'm ramping it up, HUGE, I've got a ton of daily workouts to do, I'm looking into another new program.
Since the 12th of August I'm down 10 pounds, I'm feeling great. Trying to pack for this trip this weekend and clothes are falling off of me.
