Comes out tommorrow! I'm excited. It looks like Best Buy is going to have it for $9.99 like Buffett did for the first week or so. It also says that at Best Buy, there is a bonus DVD feature or something with it. I think I'll be heading there tommorrow after work hoping that there is some left! They'll go like hotcakes around here!

its not a dvd, its just a cd-rom file, you could just watch it on cmt.com if you have a computer, circuit city is the cheapest at 8.88 and walmart is running a preorder on their website where you get the cd and kennys dvd roadcase 2 from last years tour for a total of $14, I dont know if they will offer it at the stores on tuesday

I watched the special Saturday night on CMT and I really enjoyed it. My GF (who I have taken to 2 of his concerts and she likes) said he sounded kinda fake when talking to Katie Cook. She was asking pretty simple questions about island life/his boat and he really didn't answer any of the questions, he just rambled on about "this is what has happened in my life for the last 5 1/2 years. Stories of people I have met and who they are." He seems like a pretty shy guy and said that when people meet him they expect that "on stage guy" not the laid back, quiet guy that he really is. I have been listening to the album on cmt.com all the time lately and really like it. I hope that is Robert playing the steel and the harmonica sounds great.....though I'm sure it's not Fingers, it brings back memories of him!
Question: "And now Kenny Chesney has recorded a beach album." Jimmy's Answer: "It's flattering. Some people say I should be p*** off about it but I'm really not. It's the highest form of flattery, and I'm fine with it."

kewl!!! Hopefully that'll stifle the ones that complain that he dosn't write his own music.

Except for the fact that one can write their own music and still s***. Not saying that's the case with Kenny's new album, I'm just sayin'.ph4ever wrote:12Volt wrote:He actually wrote all but one of the songs during his trips down to The Islands over the past few years.Brown Eyes wrote:It sounds like something a guy who was hanging out on the beach with a guitar would come up with.

of course there's always those that are going to be negative no matter what too.
Well...(said in my best Bubba voice) I've been on sabbatical.
Willie, Emmylou, and the late Waylon and Johnny Cash (to cite just a few examples) didn't always pen their own songs and they don't s***. That's not meant to be either negative or argumentative, it's just an observation. Although I don't count myself among the Chesney fan base I do wish him the best of luck with his latest record.

Hope so. That can't be used as an excuse not to like this album because he wrote or co-wrote EVERY song on this CD.ph4ever wrote:12Volt wrote:He actually wrote all but one of the songs during his trips down to The Islands over the past few years.Brown Eyes wrote:It sounds like something a guy who was hanging out on the beach with a guitar would come up with.

I've always been confused by those who criticize an artist for singing other songwriters' songs...
I don't think it makes someone less of an entertainer if they don't write their own material. Those who do, good on 'em. But bravo to those who also sing songs they didn't write. Without them, we'd be the poorer, because there are plenty of great songwriters who aren't terrific performers, and we wouldn't be hearing their songs unless someone else sang them.

Just checked it out on i-Tunes. The line between well drawn metaphor and obvious cliche is hard to miss. Chesney seems to have missed it completely. Writing a song like "Island Boy" is a great example. Nothing better can be expected from Nashville and it will turn a huge profit. Chesney's music is very calculated and demographic specific. Nothing is left to chance and it sounds like pre-packaged "escapism". The latest Jack Johnson cd captures the essence of Buffett at his best while this is more of a plundering of the Buffett spirit. Chesney should just get it over with and re-record "Margaritaville" so Jimmy at least gets a royalties check.

I just spent my money on the new KC cd ... and here's my opinion:
On the bad side: The songs all have a similar sound, they don’t ‘take me to the islands’, they don’t have an island sound, and they still have a country feel ..... probably ‘cause of his country drawl voice.
On the good side: the songs don’t talk about Mamma, honky-tonks, or trains, ..... the songs are soft and easy to listen to .... more as background music ..... maybe while sitting in front of a fireplace ..... or relaxing while reading a book.
I like listening to KC and have a few of his cds ... I don't think anything on here will make any greatest hits cd but I am not disappointed that I bought it.

Not a big fan of Chesney, I just think he's too contrived in his attempt to bring 'escapism to country music.' He's doing everything he can except re-record Margaritaville to move into the sector. I'm figuring he'll try to write a novel, take flying lessons, start up a web-based radio station and open a restaurant fairly soon.
Whatever, he'll have his following. I'm sure he'll try to record more Mac, probably Peter Mayer, Roger Guth as well as getting Ralph to play on his next CD. Can Fingers be far away?
I know this is supposed to be a 'positive and supportive' thread for this no-talent guy, so I'll just zip it!
