In 1893, Canada's Governor General, Lord Stanley, donated a trophy to be given to the best Canadian hockey team each year. It became known as the Stanley Cup.

Dear God,

There's nothing more exciting than Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals going into overtime. That would be really, really nice if you could swing that tonight. Maybe double OT if it's not too much trouble.

your pal,

TR

That would be EPIC!

A whole NHL season to be decided with the timeless street hockey phrase...

TR, I like how you think.

Cate,

Is the Oilers coach the same Mc Tavish that was one of the last players that didn't wear a helmet in the NHL?

ok - only ever watched hockey once 20 years ago and it was 10 year olds -not quite the same as Stanley Cup. Turned TV on in time to see Canes score #3 but where was the other goalie guy? (sorry if that is a dumb question  )

Canes win -

The Oilers pulled their goalie to give them an extra man on the ice - it's a strategy often used in close games. :)

Thanks for the hockey 101 lesson. :D

Mmm - guess this strategy doesn't work all the time does it?

Surprised we haven't heard all of the fireworks in our neighborhood to start celebration.

Nope, it's kinda like the on-side kick in football. It doesn't work often, but works enough for it to be a viable strategy at the end of the game.
