Bad week for pets. One of my co workers dog died last night. My partner is putting her dog down tomorrow. Another co worker put his to death on Monday. Sigh.

Are you indicating that you want to adopt your neighbor as a pet?

Morning all yall!
Aggie football is back this weekend. 25% capacity at Kyle Field is just 25K of your closest friends.
I'm no math major but that means on a regular (non-covid) weekend the college stadium holds 100k? Dang, y'all take the football seriously down there.

Oof. "Put his to death." Put them 'down'. A while back we adopted a Brittany pup from a shelter, one of three that were left there. Sweet little dog, a little nervous, but you could also tell that he and his siblings had been overbred, e.g. bowed front legs, things like that, which is probably why they were left. We had him for almost eight years, five on seizure meds. And he was only getting worse not better so we made that decision. Doesn't matter what it's called, it's a painful decision.

Putting to sleep sounds temporary. My cat is twenty. He already stumbles ( I told him to stay out of Rasppy’s vodka) so just waiting for his hind legs to drag.

So that's actually what happened to the Brittany. Named Cocoa by the Keet (6 y.o. at the time) because the dog's fur colors reminded him of hot cocoa. One of the side effects of the seizure meds was that it made his back legs weak, resulting in a whole host of quality of life things, from developing pressure sores trying to stand up, falling down in his own business, etc.
Our current 'pup' is almost eight years old and perfectly healthy. We'll have some sort of grieving period if and when he goes. But next time we won't get a pup. We're going to adopt an older dog from the shelter and give it some final good years. And then do it again. And again. Etc. Around here what happens is that the elderly parent or grandparent or whatever passes and the inheritors want everything but the pet(s). So that's in our future.

It’s rough but knowing you can give another pet years of happiness is worth it. They don’t belong locked up in cages.

Our second newfie was a mature lady named Lucy. There was a divorce and the wife got the dog but she was a nurse and was working long hours and the dog was always alone....we only had her about a year before her hips went. After 2 weeks of Bryan carrying her up and down the steps to go out to go potty...it was time. But, her last months were not spent alone.
