What a grate choice Aunt! If Jimmy and the Reefers busted out "Deacon Blues" I would be in Heaven. But being a musician, I can honestly tell you that Steely Dan has by far the most complex pop music in history. The band would have to rehearse this song for months just to get it right. How about "Dirty Work" ?
Yeah...I could like that one too! :D
You're thinkin' just what I'm thinkin' with a Dan cover! 8)

Here's another gem that he could make his own - "Pearl of the Quarter"

Being that he once upon a time opened for these guys, i am amazed he has never done Loggins and Messina's "Vahevala" (sp?)

New Song Buffett hasn't covered

I'm a life long parrothead, but new to the Buffett News discussion board. I've got a great song for JB to cover. It's not really a party song more of a slow ballad. How bout "Sanibel" from Crosby, Stills and Nash's Looking Forward Album. Here are the lyrics, I've just always thought this sounded like a Buffett song.

Sanibel         (Denny Sarokin)

There´s a ship and it sails a sea of light
On its way to me tonight
from a distant shore, taking me home once more

And the waves and the whistling of the wind
make me come alive again
My destiny´s at my door

Going to leave this town forever
and go where I´ll never
need an overcoat no more, where they cry

Oohhlalalala, every night and every day
sitting by the gulf coast just a thousand miles away
where they cry
Oolalalala, on an island I will dwell
Starlit nights in paradise on the isle of Sanibel

There´s a girl and I see her dressed in white
As she lies there in the night, I can hear her cry
Where has he gone and why?

But she knows that someday he will arrive
And it keeps her love alive
Dreams can never die

She looks across the ocean
at sails in motion
in the early morning sky, where they cry

Oohlala....

Angels of the water, sirens of the sea
Whispering their sweet love songs
calling out to me

Oohlala.....

Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young
"Looking Forward"  1999

If he didn't do Sanibel, I'd also love to hear him do the Eagle's song "The Last Resort."

Ring of Fire

I think JB could give this an island feel to it and make it a completely different, and still great, song.
