Seeing a Billy Joel idea makes me think that hearing him sing "Downeaster Alexa" would be pretty cool. I don't know why, just do.

From the same album "Have Some Faith In Me"
I also liked the suggestion of "Late In The Evening"
Today I was listenining to The Beatles "I'll Follow the Sun" and thought I'd like to hear it with Robert G playing the pans.

I was just singing that this morning as I was getting ready for work!

And I swear I didn't see this post first!
I'd like to hear Jimmy cover it also. I can almost hear him singing it.

I am absolutely positive that I heard it before on RM, and I want to hear it again: "I Can See Clearly Now."
I also like his cover of the Beatles song "In My Life (Places I Remember)"

Speaking of Jimmy doing a Beatles tune, how about George’s classic “Here Comes the Sun”? I could just imagine the steal drums and how good it would sound.
Another idea, I posted it in the duets thread, but it would also sound great if he did it solo: The Boss’s "Sherry Darlin’" from the 1980 album The River.

He closed a couple of shows during the winter/spring of 2002 with this song. It sounded wonderful.

So many excellent suggestions. Here are some I'd love to hear. Sorry if they are repeats:
UPBEAT/PARTY SONGS:
Life's Been Good (the Eagles)
Monkey and the Engineer (the Dead)
Glory Days (the Boss)
Seven Bridges Road (the Eagles)
Growin' Up (the Boss)
The Women Are Smarter (Harry Belafonte)
Under the Boardwalk (the Drifters)
America (Simon & Garfunkel)
MELLOW SONGS:
Tequila Sunrise (the Eagles)
Jersey Girl (the Boss - okay, this will never happen, but it does take place at the beach)
Boys of Summer (Don Henley)
Feelin' Groovy (Simon and Garfunkel)
I'm focusing on a few artists now - I'm sure there are many other, great songs for Buffett to cover!!

We have a "Classic Country" station and they played an oldie by a long lost guy named Eddie Raven called "Mexico" different then the JT one but still could be Buffettized very coolly

Eddy's still around, his newest cd is pretty good with a couple of tropical songs mixed with cajun.
There are a few songs by him that would be great covers such as "Zydeco Lady" and "Colinda" or "I should've called".

Speaking of Willie Neslon
How about "Down in the Everglades" from the Gone Fishin' soundtrack?
"Seminole Wind" by John Anderson would be cool too

Here is a link to JB's performance of this song during a surprise appearance at Margaritaville Key West on December 5. Be warned, however, that JB was not-Oh, how should I say this-exactly 100% that night!

This is what I was going to say!!! Great, great song that deserves to come out of retirement.
Glenn... I like your thinking!
Here's two more... by the Beatles/Ringo Starr
"With a Little Help from my Friends" -- great lawn-section-swaying-song
"No No Song" -- I think he'd be great!
A LADY THAT I KNOW JUST CAME FROM COLUMBIA,
SHE SMILED BECAUSE I DID NOT UNDERSTAND.
THEN SHE HELD OUT SOME MARIJUANA, HA HA!
SHE SAID IT WAS THE BEST IN ALL THE LAND.
AND I SAID,
"NO, NO, NO, NO, I DON'T SMOKE IT NO MORE,
I'M TIRED OF WAKING UP ON THE FLOOR.
NO, THANK YOU, PLEASE, IT ONLY MAKES ME SNEEZE,
AND THEN IT MAKES IT HARD TO FIND THE DOOR."
