It sucks but you (or Larry, lol) made the right decision.
We were in Perdido Key, FL when Sally hit in 2020. It was pretty much a direct hit on Gulf Shores and we were about 20 miles away. I was ready to have a hurricane party but my wiser friend decided we should leave for Pensacola the day before. Thankfully we did. The roads were shut down & we would not have made it out for days. Flood waters made it to the 2nd floor of the condo we were staying in as well.

And Sally was a walk in the park compared to Ivan (2004) for Perdido Key. Ian will be close to that strength as it passes by Tampa. Doesn't matter that it stays off shore, the right hand will deliver a punch. Myself, having gone thru Ivan.......I would evacuate if was close to that area.

You're right. We have friends in Siesta Key (BN Sistergoldenhair) that I'm concerned about.
Hubby always throws out the hurricane thing when I bring up moving to the Gulf...
