Today is National Gingerbread House Day and coincidentally tonight grandson Eli & I will be putting a Peanuts Gingerbread House version together. We won't eat any of it since most of the stuff is already hard & crunchy but it will be a fun time together. I wonder if I can save it for next year's Christmas decorating?
Gingerbread House Day on December 12th recognizes a family tradition for many around the country.
A favorite food of an Armenian monk, Gregory of Nicopolis, brought gingerbread to Europe around 992 AD and taught French Christians to bake it. Since gingerbread was often used in religious ceremonies, monks baked to be sturdy to molded into images of saints.
We can thank the Brothers’ Grimm for a gingerbread house, though. Through their tale of Hansel and Gretel, they introduce an evil witch who lives in a house made of gingerbread. It didn’t take long for the German gingerbread guilds to pick up the idea. Soon, they put gingerbread houses to a more festive use making snowy cottages made from the spicy-sweet treat.
Today, we can spend the day baking, cutting, and building to our heart’s delight. Kits take some steps out of the process so we can get right down to constructing our winter wonderlands.
Good morning. Last week we had 2 days with temperatures in the 70s. This morning it was 37 degrees when I woke up.
I've never made a gingerbread house but I did have a beer once that tasted like ginger snap cookies. I don't remember what it was called or who the brewer was but it was very good.
Nope, never built a gingerbread house ever. But they do look pretty amazing when some people do them!
Cold/snowy morning. LOTS more north, west, and east, than we have in the Denver area. And I'm good with that! Other than I-70 east and westbound is closed a few miles from the hospital. And we have a few employees that live out there, that can't get here.
So what do you do with a gingerbread house after it's been sitting around for a while and gets hard as a rock?
Years ago my stepdaughter and I took the one that her daughter built out into the woods and shot it with a pistol.
Just good fun.
Have only made gingerbread houses from kits, that was when the Keet was little. The kits certainly made the clean up easier, no dough to mess with and just piping sugar and sticking on candy and gummies. He had fun, that’s what matters.

You only have two options - havin' fun or freakin' out...
Evening BN'ers......the sun actually made an appearance here today in the Sunshine State........Low 70's, but the bottom will slowly begin to fall out with the forecast for Friday to struggle to hit the 60's.
Good evening gang!
My 11 year old Granddaughter just received about 4 different gingerbread house kits from her step-grandma for her birthday. We'll see how that works out .
My fiance' Lynn is big on the holiday baking shows.......which of course includes MONSTER gingerbread houses. Amazing stuff they can do.
Guess I'll tune into the Red Wings vs. Carolina Hurricanes hockey game tonight. Wings have had a tough time against the better teams this year which the Canes are. Hopefully they'll find a way to win, they just lost to them last week.
Corona by day, Corona by night, any old time is just alright!

Disney has huge gingerbread houses, carousels, etc. Everything smells so good.
When the holiday is over, all the gb is taken to the bee houses for the bees to consume. Wonder if the honey tastes like gb
Hi there! At a diner, we visited with a coworker of Anne and her daughter, who was a favorite student of mine. I had not seen the student for ten years. She said I was her favorite teacher. I almost blushed with emotion.
If I wasn't fishing in this all day rain,I'd be home doing something stupid.

The Hurricanes just lost to Anaheim last week. I think Anaheim is either the worst or second worst team in the league so there's hope for Detroit tonight.

The peanuts gingerbread house was as expected. Fun to put together and fun to eat some of the candy before it made it on the house. No chocolate was involved!!!!
