I’ve got my hush puppies out…

Post by TravisMcGeeBahiaMar »

I will find myself this Labor Day weekend the same place I was last year for Labor Day.
Last year the wife and I were in London. I had come in from a run in Battersea Park when my wife sat me down and told me about Jimmy Buffett’s passing. London isn’t a great place to be a Buffett fan, but we knew of a Mexican place in Borough Market that served great food and cold Mexican beer. It’s been a tough year. I miss Jimmy Buffett very much. I always felt better about the world knowing he was in it. This year I will celebrate and miss Jimmy Buffett all at once. anybody have any similar plans?

Hello! We just moved to Myrtle Beach SC after living in PA all of our lives. There is a large PH Club here in Myrtle Beach (the Coast of Carolina PH Club). We have not yet been able to join them for any events but on Friday they are having a JB Day celebration at a local sports pub. There will be live music (obviously, mostly JB stuff), a 50/50 drawing for a local charity, and hopefully we will get to start a new chapter of PH Friends :).

I was staging for the Dragon Con parade in Atlanta that Saturday morning when I got a text from a friend that made me do the immediate online search thing. After doing so, I saw down on the curb and pawed at my friend nearby and she sat with me and I showed her. We cried together for a few minutes, then continued on with parade staging and marched in the parade, as Jimmy would have wanted.

I'll be back at Dragon Con this year, and I'm running a "Running of the Buffetts" photoshoot/run through the hotels of the convention as a tribute.

I was in Charleston (Folly Beach) when I go the news. It was a shock & an emotional weekend, that turned into an emotional year for us. Still can't wrap my mind around it. His impact on my life was immense.

Will be celebrating Jimmy this weekend at Jacksonville Beach. Will take part in the JB Day festivities at the Margaritaville there.

Bubbles Up, PHriends!

Fins Up!
Someday I will.

I am going back to our beach cabin in Port Alto, TX. That’s where I heard the news, and where I will be.

It was about 5:30 a.m. in the morning. My wife had gotten up before me and went downstairs to make us coffee. About 3 minutes later I heard her yell, "Oh my God." She came back up the stairs with an obvious sense of urgency that startled me. In all honesty, I thought she was going to say something had happened to our older daughter out in California. She came into the bedroom with tears starting to well up in her eyes, looked at me and said, "I don't know how to tell you this. Jimmy Buffett died."

I felt a sense of relief and shock at the same moment. Relieved the news was not something that I had unreasonably feared, but then a rush of emotions that were confusing at first.

I took my dog to the park that overlooks Long Island Sound for the sunrise (our morning ritual) and texted my mom that I would be headed out later that night to see her in Bridgehampton, New York. I had to be out on Long Island.

The next morning, I woke up out in Bridge at about 4:30 a.m. Drove to the beach with a bottle of champagne. I talked to the Universe, I danced and I cried.

Last night I listened to the 100 list, while I drank a bottle of champagne. And that will now be my ritual. Bubbles up.

Speaking of hushpuppies, where can I find the best? I had a catfish place in Arkansas that did it right, but they went out of business.

Oklahoma now, but I travel across the south a lot. The all-time great hushpuppies were in C&C Catfish in Van Buren, Arkansas. Homemade every day by a guy who came in just to make the hushpuppies.

Not sure where in OK you are, but Yelp has a list of good places in OKC or in Tulsa. (My in-laws are in Broken Arrow)
