Melon in Maine MONDAY@ the MSC
Good morning BN. Tammy and I share a love of Downeast, wishing I was there.
If I wasn't fishing in this all day rain,I'd be home doing something stupid.

Good morning Bill.
I had to get up earlier than usual today, I have a doctor's appointment at 8:30. Maybe I'll luck out driving there, right now we seem to be having a lull in the storm. Depending on which forecast you believe, we could have 2 inches of rain or 6+ inches. I would prefer to have the 2 inches forecast.
I've been to Maine twice, the last time was in 2009 when I went to the New England Parrothead Convention.

Good Morning Bill & Larry.
Thankful "our" pond level rose overnight from the rain. The banks were looking really bad and we had a stretch of time with a lot of stinky algae.
I'm feeling better but still sound bad. We may venture out to Home Depot to check on a "garage ready" fridge we saw last week. Kevin would like to begin brewing beer again and was leaning towards bottling because we couldn't find the right type of fridge. I'm hoping this one will work for him as I know he enjoys brewing & a few guys in the neighborhood are anxious to see how it's done (of course, they're just as anxious to taste test) .
Enjoy your day !

When I left to go to the doctor's office it was raining so I wore my waterproof windbreaker. By time I got there, about 1 1/2 miles away, it had stopped and it hasn't started again.

Yeah...downeast of disorder was a great place to live. I'm not physically there any more, but I'll be where the coast is clear for the rest of my life in some way or another.

We flew down to San Jose (Mountin View) to take MrsSPH's 96 year old mother to a doctor's appointment. We were just about to leave her place when the doctor's office called and cancelled the appointment.... all the power was off in the building and they couldn't see patients.
Not a real big deal, we spent the afternoon visiting with her and then were able to spend the rest of the weekend visiting with our she-'keets who both live in the Bay Area.

Good Afternoon all!
Morning was nuts here at work. Finally started to calm down. If people would just do their jobs, mine would be a lot easier.
Not quite as hot today/tomorrow. Our A/C finally got looked at, and it works WITH our water heater. Said water heater was over heating/leaking, and could have exploded. They re-wired and re-piped it, and it's now working perfectly!! Even shuts off when it's supposed to. Got a great maintenance Lead that works for the company.
Going to go to Cripple Creek next month, just for a weekend. Need to get away before I lose my mind.
Have a great time, Tammy!!

Re: Melon in Maine MONDAY@ the MSC
A visit to Cripple Creek is on my bucket list... In my climb around in my family tree, I've found documents that say my mother was born in Cripple Creek (in 1919) and others that say Colorado Springs. She had lots of stories about growing up in Colorado Springs.
For you youngsters out there, if you haven't already, start asking your older family members about your family history. Now that I have the time to be interested, I find myself to be the oldest person in my branch of the family tree and I have nobody to ask any questions of as I try to climb higher up in the tree.

Re: Melon in Maine MONDAY@ the MSC
I recall going to Cripple Creek back in about 1994 at the end of a Grand Canyon trip. We wound our way into town from the south side off of US 50. Turned into a somewhat narrow dirt road heading through the town of Victor. After a while I thought we were on the wrong road & flagged down a car coming towards us. "Yes, you're on the right road they told us". Ok, full speed ahead then. Quite the adventure for sure.SMLCHNG wrote: ↑September 16, 2024 2:27 pm Good Afternoon all!

We were going to stay at the new "Chamonix", until we looked at the prices. About $220 for a night. Decided on the "Golden Nugget", which we've stayed at one before, for about $110 a night. Sightseeing, eating, drinking, and a little playtime on the penny slots. It's about an hour & 45 minutes from us.

Re: Melon in Maine MONDAY@ the MSC
We had a Spectacular Whale Watch trip
We saw a LOT of whales! Humpbacks, Fin Whale, Pilot Whales with tiny babies, Bottle Nose Dolphins, Atlantic White Side Dolphins! We also saw a seal! There was a humpback that was throwing his/her entire back end up out of the water and twisted it. I forget what it's called, but then we saw a complete out of the water breach! I didn't get any good pictures but we're going to look for a camera at Walmart!
We forgot just how hard, cold and small those benches are! We were spry and dare I say cocky as we boarded the boat. We're just crippled, shaky, old people who had to stop at least 5 times stumbling up the street to the village green to catch the bus back to the car.
Again.... we're too old to have fun!
Edited to add: Bryan had 2 ticket stubs from our last trip 12 years ago when you could get another trip at a different time of you didn't see any whales. They honored them and we're going back out on Thursday. I'm gonna need the time to recover!

Re: Melon in Maine MONDAY@ the MSC
Well, it's kinda confusing - there is a water pipe behind the wall in the area that the thermostat sits on the wall, and the water was SCALDING hot coming from the water heater (up through pipes in our kitchen ceiling, then down the wall in the hallway), so the thermostat couldn't keep up. Now it can.Caribbean Soul wrote: ↑September 16, 2024 8:38 pm What??!! I have never heard of an A/C tied in any way to a hot water heater!

Re: Melon in Maine MONDAY@ the MSC
Our very first trip to Bar Harbor, and the very first whale watch trip was SO long ago. Our girls were in elementary/middle school. It was freaking awesome! I was seasick and then we saw the humpbacks. They came alongside the boat, very close! I started bawling . Sunday when we went into Acadia I got emotional and cried. This place speaks to my soul. Bryan brought me tissues on the trip today. After we saw the complete breach, I said to myself, "I can die happy now"

Good morning.
If you want an experience, go to a Jimmy Buffett concert.
Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.
Life is short, live long!!
I'd rather be a wiseass than a dumbass.

Re: Melon in Maine MONDAY@ the MSC
Doing well. Well, status quo, as likely true for most of us. (Actually, not true over the past year, as big changes, but on the day to day, very true.)
This Acadia/whale watching talk is reminding me of two things:
1-as a tween, I went on a whale watching trip at the Cape. I think we saw some whales/at least spray from some, etc. But mostly, I remember being seasick. Boo. I'm tickled that melon59 had a great trip and that the tour place honored the old ticket stubs. That's amazing.
2-I got to go back to Maine this winter. I go back every March to help with a dog sled race there, and this year, I got roped into helping with two (well, sorta - read on). So I decided to go up for the first one and stay until the second one a few weeks later. I am still licensed in Maine and got a temporary license for New Hampshire and stayed with a friend there. So, lodging free and could still work (I'm doing full time fill-in work here in Texas, so I can adjust my schedule if needed - I am very thankful for my privilege with this and I also have enough contacts in Southern Maine to do the same there, so yeah, it works). So, I helped with the first race and took some time to wander. I took my best friend, who drove up with me, to Acadia in the off season, which is a whole other thing. She'd never been. There was little to no snow (anywhere - in fact the second race was canceled due to this for the first time in its thirty year history), but the park was as empty as usual in March. It was lovely. I then stayed for nearly a month while she flew back. I got some Ice Coast snowboarding in and hiked and it was also lovely. Then she flew back up and we drove back, but we meandered a bit since the second race got cancelled and there was therefore a bit more leeway in our schedule. We drove to P-Town and it was also empty - we wandered the beaches and listed to When the Coast is Clear, which I only listen to in Maine, where it applies, as a rule. But I made an exception for Mass in this case, as it also applied. We dodged a light rain and had dinner in a non-seasonal restaurant right on the water. We were the only customers there. I had a Cheeseburger in Paradise. We drove out from the Cape in a pouring rain and stayed the night in Providence (no "town" suffix) and then drove back via Mystic and a friend's place in Maryland, then a long haul all the way back. Yeah, good times. Get you a friend who will blow all their PTO from their not-nearly-as-flexible-as-yours job to do a road trip with you is all I can say.
...I come down to talk to me...when the coast is clear...
