If it suddenly ended tomorrow, I could somehow adjust to the fall.

Mr. Overalls,
Just got done watching (and recording for future use) you and JB for the third time in the past five days on Best of Austin City Limits on CMT. Also have just about worn out my Live By the Bay tape as well.
It's been said many different ways on this thread, but just wanted to drop a note saying how much I think you added to the "action" of the shows back then, and that you are a very good guitarist whose style is still missed today. Not that the current strummers aren't good in their own right. . .but I certainly wouldn't mind going to a show where you might step in for a few songs and re-live those "rowdy" days. Maybe Nissan Pavilion next year?

To all the PH's that miss me up on the stage-I too miss playing for all of you-I also think the old band may have Rocked more-but thats not anyone's fault-I think the new band is filled with Great players and singer's.
We could be a bit of a handfull at times for Jimmy in those days -I'm sure it's less to think about for him and that can't be all wrong-Jimmy gave me a wonderful gift, and that was to perform for all of you night after night. Maybe he'll let the Vinyl kings open the show one tour and then we can sit in and rock the Place!! Keep the faith-I believe in the Parrothead
Nation!!!! Josh

Hey to all and Happy new Year! I've had alot of PH's asking me what I've been up to and where did I disappear to? Well I'm still around writing songs and making records in Nashville. I was lucky enough to have Kenny Chesney cut one of my songs on his latest CD. The song is called "Outta Here" The song sounds alot like someone's music we all know and love-but hey I can't help it...if you play with him long enough, it rubs off. The Vinyl kings also have a new CD coming out on cdbaby if anyone is interested. {I hope I'm not violating the code of this site}
Here's to all of you having a great 2005 with Peace in our future!

Does anyone know what happen to Barry Chance, Jimmy's guitar player before me? Josh
Re: Barry Chance
Josh, I found this at extreme musician web site. It does NOT say exactly how or what he is doing today, but has some info.White Overalls wrote:Does anyone know what happen to Barry Chance, Jimmy's guitar player before me? Josh
Barry Chance is a guitar player and played in a Nashville-area band called The Chessmen back in the early '70s. More recently he was the guitar player for country singer Chalee Tennison.
Barry and I played together for a while in Nashville with a group called Hillbilly Highway. In 2000 Barry had a stroke, but from what i understand , he's doing a whole lot better...playin again. Hillbilly Highway was Barry Chance (guitar), Bret Short (guitar), Beverly Nolen,(now Bev McGee),(drums) and Mel Travis (bass)(me).

Of COURSE we remember you, Josh! I got a big kick out of that 'overall-lost-luggage' story, and it didn't hurt that you can play the heck out of a guitar! Glad to have you here in Tennessee! I can close my eyes and see you dancin' and gettin' down on Rag Top Day!!! We love ya, looking forward to the interview!

I have a question for you Josh. You mentioned Outta Here (buy the way I love that song!!! - thanks for writing it!!). Some of the people on this site think that KC is nothing but a Buffett imitator and hold a ton of resentment towards his music and claim he's a bad wannabe while others see KC as a man of his own and really like his music. While it is understood that musical taste is as individual as the people on this board I was wondering if you had any comments regarding this.
Well...(said in my best Bubba voice) I've been on sabbatical.
OUTTA HERE
(Josh Leo)
Lets leave town on a permanent vacation lock up the house pack up the station
Wagon make paradise our final destination as long as we're outta here
There ain't no time like the present day sail let's cruise all the way down A-1-A
Put the top down and catch a few rays baby we'll be outta here
Anywhere you want to go as long as it's sunny weather
Let the time fly by I don't mind as long as we're together
South of the border there's a place I know where James Taylor sang about Mexico
And the suns so hot we'll foget to go home baby we'll be outta here
[ guitar ]
Anywhere you want to go as long as it's sunny weather
Let the time fly by I don't mind as long as we're together
Baby drive through the county down to the lake
See if the catfish are jumpin set out bait
And if we come up dry we'll just sleep in late atleast we'll be outta here
As long as we're outta here baby let's get outta here
[ guitar ]
Outta here
[ guitar ]
Come on baby let's get outta here cruise down A-1-A
Hang out in key west a little while
Great lyrics. Did you write the song and then pitch it to Kenny, or did he come to you and ask you to write a song? When was it written? Is it on any other cd? Is it the type of song the Vinyl Kings might record?
Were you asked to join him for a duet?
~~~~~^~~~~~~~~^~~~~
Still laughing at this photo and the comments about it looking like Josh
Maybe Scoman will come out of the woodwork for concert time!
ph4ever-While it's only my opinion, and I believe ALL are entitled to there's, I found Kenny to be a very down to earth guy and very much a Buffett fan and very "respectful" of what Jimmy does. So he likes Jimmy's music. Artist are always quoted as having somone who inspired them..hey Alan Jackson recorded one of Jimmy's songs, do people hate him for it? Why is it not right for Kenny to be a PH deep inside and do acouple of Buffett sounding songs? He did my song and that really sounds like a Buffett song......o.k. maybe because I played with JB for 6 yrs?
KC does other types of music too that is not Buffett sounding and is it such a bad thing to suddenly have more choices for Buffett typse music?
A few yrs ago, you couldn't find this kind of music outside of JB if you're life depended on it.
SO...in my long winded fashion, I thank Mr. Chesney for stepping up and admitting...My name is Kenny, and I am a PH.[/quote]
Thank you for the kind words.
My publisher pitched it to Kenny. After I wrote it, it sounded to me like a Buffett "Knock off", which it is so I forgot about it. Then 6months later I got a call from Kenny asking me if I wanted to hear the song in the studio, which stunned me, because I've never meet him before.
{great guy too}
It's not on any other CD's yet!
No the Vinyl Kings music is the Beatles meets the Beach Boys with Mavin Gaye stopping by for one song. Fun Stuff though!!
Any other Questions? This is fun..
