White Overalls wrote:I have a question for you Josh. You mentioned Outta Here (buy the way I love that song!!! - thanks for writing it!!). Some of the people on this site think that KC is nothing but a Buffett imitator and hold a ton of resentment towards his music and claim he's a bad wannabe while others see KC as a man of his own and really like his music. While it is understood that musical taste is as individual as the people on this board I was wondering if you had any comments regarding this.

ph4ever-While it's only my opinion, and I believe ALL are entitled to there's, I found Kenny to be a very down to earth guy and very much a Buffett fan and very "respectful" of what Jimmy does. So he likes Jimmy's music. Artist are always quoted as having somone who inspired them..hey Alan Jackson recorded one of Jimmy's songs, do people hate him for it? Why is it not right for Kenny to be a PH deep inside and do acouple of Buffett sounding songs? He did my song and that really sounds like a Buffett song......o.k. maybe because I played with JB for 6 yrs?
KC does other types of music too that is not Buffett sounding and is it such a bad thing to suddenly have more choices for Buffett typse music?
A few yrs ago, you couldn't find this kind of music outside of JB if you're life depended on it.
SO...in my long winded fashion, I thank Mr. Chesney for stepping up and admitting...My name is Kenny, and I am a PH.
[/quote]

Oh I feel the same way you do. Basically I just wanted an opinion from someone who had actually not only played with Buffett but also met other performers who were following the Buffett sound. Unfortunately for quite a few people here they can't seem to realize that imitation is the best form of flattery. thanks for your response

I honestly think KC is a parrothead . . . look, he's covered Jimmy's song, he's covered Mac's song, and he's covered Josh Leo's song! Maybe he wants to be a coral reefer or something

White Overalls wrote:Hey to all and Happy new Year! I've had alot of PH's asking me what I've been up to and where did I disappear to? Well I'm still around writing songs and making records in Nashville. I was lucky enough to have Kenny Chesney cut one of my songs on his latest CD. The song is called "Outta Here" The song sounds alot like someone's music we all know and love-but hey I can't help it...if you play with him long enough, it rubs off. The Vinyl kings also have a new CD coming out on cdbaby if anyone is interested. {I hope I'm not violating the code of this site}
Here's to all of you having a great 2005 with Peace in our future!

First of all it's good to see you around here. Congratulations on getting "Outta Here" picked up!

To me, your energy level is one of the highlights of the Live By The Bay video. I know it was a long time ago, but here's a question from another thread I thought you could help answer;

-----

"At the end of the tape when Jimmy and the Reefers came back out on stage, Coronas in hand Jimmy told the crowd "the party isnt over yet..do you want to hear a pirate song?!!!" They begin to play and the tape ends with Jimmy talking.

What song did he play for an encore?
Why isnt it played on the tape?"

Four play-I'm so sorry, I don't remember! Did we already do a pirate looks at 40? Pirate song? Just don't remember-I might of had a "few" that night-I always tell people when they ask "what was it like playing with Buffett for 6 yrs"? "They tell me I had a great time"!
And as for why it wasn't on the tape-that would have been bubba's call.
I didn't answer your question, sorry. Any others? Josh

I know it's like asking you to choose a favorite kid, but do you have a favorite among the songs you've written/co-written?

phjrsaunt-well the Kenny song is quite a bit different than the VK's-"Outta Here" is the type of song I would have written with Jimmy back in the early 80's for one of his records...I mean CD! Your typical Island feel with the lets get out of town lyric-throw in A1A, J.T. the beach, the sun, use words like "paradise", "south of the border"...you get the picture.
Thanks for the kind words on the VK cd. Have you heard the new one? It's alittle different-some Beach Boys vibe, some Beatles vibe, and a Marvin Gaye type thing. Fun

SchoolGirlsHeart-My favorite song? Ah my next one! I really don't love anything I've written yet. Although at the moment, I'm liking"Your Turn To Shine" A Vinyl Kings song I wrote the lyrics to. It's about letting go of your kids once they reach the age and decide to move out. yeah I'm getting old...but I still can rock! Thanks any other questions-this is fun!!!

No problem, I can relate to that. :pirate:

Thanks for the reply though. Here are a couple of questions for you.

What's the strangest place you ever woke up?

Who were you with?

How did you get there?

What's the strangest place you can remember waking up, and how did you get there? You can leave out who you were with if you want, to protect the innocent and all...

Oh and while you're at it... :wink:

What's something you've always wanted to do, but haven't tried?

Why not?

Thanks for the replies Josh. And I really wasn't going anywhere with that last line of questioning.

If you're serious about doing that, maybe Bubba could help plant a seed with the right people. I'd say his quote on the Vinyl Kings front page is a pretty strong endorsement. Either way I hope that works out for you someday.

You're quite welcome and sorry it took me awhile to respond-went out of town and in some places it's hard to find a computer, like Ft. Payne, Ala.
Yeah that would be great if Jimmy would, but........he'd want his 15% and well, maybe I'll stop here.{Ha} Josh
