Lucky Star
This is my favorite song from the new CD. It can easily be compared to songs from "A-1-A", "Livin' and Dying in 3/4 Time", or "A White Sports Coat and a Pink Crustacean". Lucky Star has a 70's country/folk sound to it, and is co-written by Roger Guth & Peter Mayer.
This song features Fingers on harmonica, former Coral Reefer Doyle Grisham is back on steel guitar, and there is also a 12 string guitar overdub mixed in.
The lyrics for this song basically say that even though things may not be going your way, you can still be thankful for the things you have. In this case what more do you need than a roof over your head, someone to love, and a guitar.
Chorus:
"I got a roof over my head,
Someone to love me in a four poster bed,
And I can play this here guitar
I thank my lucky stars. "
It's a good sing along song that I would like to hear played during the summer tour.

Oysters & Pearls
This song is a nice swaying ballad that has piano mixed in with drums and guitar. The song was co-written by Mac McAnally & Jimmy Buffett. It brings back memories of some of the great "Ballads" that Jimmy has done that I really enjoy including "Defying Gravity" and "Survive".
The song points out that there are few people in the world who become "Pearls" because of their accomplishments (even though others may have discouraged them from doing so). The "Pearls" are those who take chances and risks, they are famous and well known, and never fade away. The song mentions two people who fall into this category: Charles Lindbergh and Elvis.
The "Oysters" are those who sit back and play it safely. They are the followers who don't take the risks.
The song questions how it is determined which classification someone becomes in life with the line "How does it happen, how do we know?". Later on in the song is the line "It's something more than DNA that tells us who we are". Probably something that is not determined by your genes, which could imply that you determine your fate along with a little luck and magic.
This song was played during the Winter tour in February, so it will probably be played during the Summer tour

Beach House on the Moon
The lyrics to the song are written by Jimmy Buffett and the song includes some of the experiences he shared with his son Cameron during a boat trip down the Nile river in Africa. The song starts out with a nice instrumental that lasts about 50 seconds (a blend of steel drums, bass guitar, and drums).
One line from the song that best describes what it's about is '"teach your children to go fishing with their minds". Like any youngster, Cameron is full of questions and is curious about learning all sorts of new things. Jimmy has taught his son many things in life. From the song you can tell they spend a lot of time together fishing and the times are full with new experiences and adventures. Who knows maybe someday they will end up going together in a rocket ship to that beach house on the moon.
The style of the song is similar to other ones that he has done in the 90's. It reminds me of a combination of "Delaney Talks to Statues" and "Remittance Man". Since this Summer's tour is called the "Beach House on the Moon" tour, there is a good shot that this song will be played.

Semi-True Stories
If you love the classic Buffett style of the early 70's then you will certainly enjoy this song. The song has a great blend of Fingers on harmonica, Doyle Grisham on pedal steel guitar, along with acoustic guitar and piano. Even though this song is about an incident that happened to Jimmy, the song was actually written by Mac McAnally.
The Semi-True story that this song refers to is about an incident that happen between Jimmy and Buford Pusser (the legendary sheriff whose unusual style of order is portrayed in the movie "Walking Tall"). On the day Jimmy recorded "God's own Drunk", he and drummer Sammy Creason went to a bar and wound up drinking a lot of tequila. After leaving the bar they could not find the car they came in, so Jimmy got up on the hood of a Cadillac to get a better view of the parking lot (stomping with his golf shoes on). The owner of the car, Buford Pusser, happened to be watching the whole thing. Jimmy and Creason saw him coming after them and they ran toward their car, got in it, but could not get away in time. Pusser wound up punching Creason and pulling out some of Jimmy's hair before they could get away. Later JB and Creason returned to the bar and found out that it was Sheriff Pusser that they got into a confrontation with.
It's nice to hear Jimmy going back to his original Nashville style with this song.

This album is too slow and is in need of some of his older types of songs like Boat Drinks,The weather is here,Fins,Volcano.Come on now Parrotheads,Don't try to fool yourself into believing this is better than classic Buffett. It may be repetitive but I would like to hear more songs about the oceans, sailing,or just being drunk on the beach.More PARADISE!!LESS MATH SUCKS!! Admit it .Have some balls.Jimmy knows what we want to hear, after all he only played one song of BHOM at his concert!!!

This album was good but not great. I would liked
to have heard more of the steel drums and maybe
just one more fast song near the end of the album.
it is definatly too different for the casual
parrot head but I think any hard core parrot head
would agree that there are a few songs here that
are destined to become classics. Those who give
this album a chance will find they like it more
than they thought they did. Those who don't should
just stick to songs they know by heart.

I dunno, at Jimmy's age, I thought there was alot of introspection and a little observation of life (which I think are his strong points). I used some of his "Oysters and Pearls" lyrics in a tribute to my daughter (who is going to the Naval Academy) in her senior yearbook (yes I gave Jimmy credit). I like the way Jimmy changes styles and explores his music. It keeps it interesting! And who wouldn't like "Math Sucks" or "I Will Play for Gumbo"? My personal favs are "Waitin' for the Next Explosion" and "Permanent Reminder......of a Temporary Feeling" ever BEEN there?

I ripped this album a new ass for months.
But then you know what happened?
I actually listened to it all the way through.
My friend kept telling me it was a great album and now I finally believe him.
For some strange reason I have done the same thing in the past on albums like Floridays,Last Mango, and Don't Stop The Carnival.
Songs like Pacing the Cage,Semi-true Story,Gumbo, and a few others are now on my faves list!!
WHAT WAS I THINKING????(or drinking)
Finz Up^^^^~~^^~^^^

I thought this album was just OK when I first got it and did a lot of track skipping on the CD player. I needed a good kick in the ass to get BHOTM on my "heavy rotation" list and I got just that when I heard "Pacing the Cage" and "Oysters and Pearls" played as the final encores at the two shows I saw this spring. Since seeing Jimmy play those songs live, I've played the album pretty much non-stop and have come to love it in it's entirety. Besides the two songs I mentioned, "Semi-True Story" and "Lucky Star" are big time standouts. For those of you who will never warm up to this record, you'd better get used to "I Will Play For Gumbo" because I think it's quickly become a staple for future Jimmy shows. "That's one small step for man..." You know the rest.

I agree -- took me a while, but & now my favorites are "Lucky Stars", "Flesh & Bone", "Semi-True Story" & (after the conert) "Pacing the Cage". Of course, I saw the Houston show, & I'd been watching the set lists & liked the last in spite of the fact I'd been very much hoping that "Love & Luck" (one of my all-time favorites) wasn't the closing number in that venue.

I have to agree with tommyboy...
I could do without the Math song. Yes, I do have a sense of humor, but I also have school age kids. (I simply taped around it and play only the tape in my car.)
I had been hearing about a song JB was alledgedly working on prior to the BHotM release titled "Hey,You... Out Of The Gene Pool" I think that would have been a MUCH better fit to the album, as it includes several other DNA and evolution references.

I will admit that I have only been a buffet fan for a few years, but I know what I like when it comes to music. I love Beach House on the Moon.
So what if it doesn't sound like stuff he did two decades ago. The bass lines are awesome, and the lyrics are excellent. I really like Math Suks, in spite of what everyone else thinks. "Jogging" is a kick ••• tune...As is "Next Explosion". My wife has been a Buffett fan for years, and his music did not wear off on me until I listened to this album a few times. Now I am hooked! This album actually turned me on the his older material. The title track grew on me immediately. This song is rich in introspection. I like that. Not everything has to be about blended drinks. Don't get me wrong...I got wasted off "Margaritaville Tequila" at the Clarkston show this summer (Doro and Blanco), and plan on doing it again in Cincinatti.
Fins up!!!

Allansrule-If you think BeachHouse was great, you will make one fine parrothead forever. I like the CD but think it has its weaker moments. I have once again put it on the plater and am making a couple a spins with it-you know, its not as weak as I originally thought. Thanks, sometimes some of us need a swift kick in the kazoo to pump new blood into these old parrothead bodies. Have fun in Cinci and look for Ministerofmargarita while you're there. He should stick out like a sore thumb, he'll be smokin a cuban and of course he's from Iowa. Enjoy! Fins up!

Ohio- Oh but Banana Wind is killer, at least I can really get into it a bit more than Beachhouse. As you say, go figure- all the pholks can criticize and say whatever they want but as a die hard fan (we all seem to be that)each one of Jimmy's albums has its ups and downs. Ya gotta love em all. Guess you'll be doin either the Riverbend gig or the Polaris gig right Ohio? Have fun and down a Corona for me! I will return the favor once Jimmy makes his way back to Texas!!! Fins up my phriend!
