When I first heard theard FSOTW I was dissapointed with the FSOTW cut. I think I was expecting someting more "african" or something like Paul Simon. But after I watched the videao footage on the CD I found it PERFECT and absolutely LOVE it!

I find the album a little more sophisticated and mellow compared to a lot of his past stuff, but have mellowed with age too so can relate! I will normally skip past Last Man Standing, Hokey Pokey and USS when driving etc. They don't seem to fit in the the mood of the others. I do find them OK though and listen to them under "party" conditions as they are more lively. Hokey Poeky has actually grown on me a little. Really didn't like it when I first heard it live though! Scared me. I thought Jimmy must have cracked up and this might be the beginning of the end of him! :o

I hated Middle of the Night at first... now i can't stop playing it. It just has this affect on me!
And i'm confused... what does FSOTW mean? I'm new to this and still don't know!

My wife was the Buffett fan... well that was before we where married.

I went to 2 Buffett show before I even knew anything more then Margaritaville & Cheeseburger.

FSOTW: Far Side of the World. Maybe someone could make a Buffett acronym guide...

This is one old thread you dug up, almost two years old! But that's ok. :D

Songs that grew on me... Well I'll have to think, but the first one that comes to mind is Turnabout. At first, I thought it was quite boring. The melody repeats over and over and there is no chorus or bridge to the song. But after a few more listens listening closer to the lyrics, it has become on of my favorites.

USS Zydecoldsmobile. When I first heard it , it put me really on edge. But now, I run to it and I like it. I like the name too. It's clever.

False Echoes- When my dad passed away I came to truly understand the song and now I have a line from it in my sig line!

In my early Buffett days, many of the songs had to grow a little, I was into Led Zeppelin, Cheap trick, ACDC, etc. So it took a few days to adjust to the more laid back type of music!

Bob Roberts Society Band

There are still a bunch of songs that I guess are still germinating.. they ain't growin' fast, but..

and there are still some that I would rather listen to the sound of a high-speed drill on my teeth than to them...

grew on me

I like FSOTW more and more each time I hear it.

I also never cared that much for Lone Palm but now it is maybe my favorite song at the current time.

Believe it or not, the very first time I heard "Come Monday" some 25-plus years ago, I didn't like it at all. THEN I heard it live in concert. Now it's one of my all-time favorites.

Others that had to grow on me-
Survive
Sending the Old Man Home
When Salome Plays the Drum
Apocolypso
Oysters & Pearls
Autour de Rocher

I really didn't like "I Love the Now" when I first heard it. I really enjoy it now and after hearing him do it live.

For me it's Migration. I never really noticed it the first time around. Now its one of my favorites. Someone posted a Story of BN a while back about JB showing up at his restaurant in Las Vegas and actually taking requests. I think this is the song I would request.

Definitely "God's Own Drunk" and I'm still not 100% sure that I like it. I guess it is still trying to grow on me!

I used to skip "Grapefruit-Juicy Fruit" each time it came on. Now it's among my favorites. Still working on "Desdemona's building a rocket ship." It's a difficult song to have grow on you.

The studio version of Pencil Thin Mustache always left me saying "so what". Listening to TT&S I found the life given to it by the crowd, so I went back and studied the lyrics and began to understand what it meant.

The Speedo Man is trying to let the entire album of " Somewhere over China" grow on the Prince Of Bluberness. This album is just kinda of hard to get into, it is not really the type that makes you want to slam on your favorite Speedo and then let the blubber fly.
