No East Hampton Show in 2002
Jimmy will not be performing at the East Hampton benefit show this year. Someone from the Montesori school said they are trying to get a band member to perform for the Harvest Moon benefit show.

Excuse me for a little healthy skepticism, but this message is about a vague as it can get.GUEST wrote:Jimmy will not be performing at the East Hampton benefit show this year. Someone from the Montesori school said they are trying to get a band to perform for the Harvest Moon show.
It is sent by an unregistered GUEST, who says "somebody from the Montesori (sp) school..."
This is unsubstantiated at best, and I think Phjim should remove it from the News Bulletin section of the board.

east hampton show
that's some terrible news, the east hampton shows were my favorites by far.....I actually got my picture taken with him last year, only he blinked from the flash....anyhow, I was even planning to fly in, as I am on the west coast now...........I had heard his children no longer attend the school, any truth to that (I dismissed it as unfounded prior, though now seems possible) That show will be missed.

Looks like a HOAX to me, all guest and newbies saying something like this, don't belive a word of it at all. Wait a few weeks, and we will have a offical announcement. If you call the Theatre, they are not going to say if God, opps i mean Jimmy is playing there. Usually they announce when tickets go on sale, and the show is a few weeks later. So if by the beginning of Novemeber we do not hear anything, I'd say start worrying, but til then, leave it alone. Only 300 of us will be able to see the show anyways.

FACTS to ponder:
1. The school director was getting a gazillion calls a day as far back as April, so if the ONE person that is there to answer the phone isn't already p***-off, she will be soon when everyone else starts calling. This is a small school (20-something w/o Buffett kids), with a small staff.
2. The Buffetts left North Haven a couple of weeks ago for WPB - they used to stay until November, but since the school only goes to grade 6, Delaney could not attend.
3. Jimmy has said that "something" may be worked out, I hope so because the school could use the money to build their own facility.
4. If you didn't buy tickets before, you probably would have a hard time getting them now, and forget the VIP tix.
5. If you need a reason to come to the Hamptons, Robert Earl Keen is playing at Steven Talkhouse (631-267-3117) on 10/13. It's a smaller venue, and you sure as hell won't have to pay $1500.00 for a VIP ticket.

Hey Sirgumby--
why don't you just head right on down to the Hampton's today--and hop in line to wait for tickets to the show! After all, what would a newbie know!
First of all, I didn't call any "theater"....I spoke directly to the person who has co-ordinated the ticket sales for the event.
Secondly, the show was a BENEFIT....so the main idea was to SELL these expensive tickets---NOT to deceive people about the availability of those tickets!!
The lady seemed as bummed as I when she gave me the news---as I'm certain it was very lucrative for the Montessori School---and a whole lotta phun as well for all involved !!!
But, fortunately for you---you saw right thru this "hoax"
...and hey---would you mind saving me a spot at the front of the line at the "theater" !!

Well, I recieved an email from Metro Joe Lombardi this morning. He's from the Metro Parrothead club and he confirmed the rumors. This is a very reputable source because Jimmy Buffett has mentioned the club and him at the Sag Harbor & Hamptons shows. "Jimmy Buffett has decided not to perform at the benefit this year", I called the school this morming 9/12/02 at 9:05am and they told me the same thing. He was probably just doing the school a favor while his daughter was in school there. It's very disappointing but as Metro Joe put it "it was good while it lasted". I just feel it's kind of strange to just stop raising money for a small school that can use some extra funds. But, he has no obligation to the school any more so that's that.

I'm still not buying it. Why would they "leak" any info at all? A sure way to get Jimmy never to play there anymore is to tell people when they call that there will be a show before Jimmy's own website announces it. It's not like they need any help in selling the tickets. If they announced it right now that he was playing tomorrow night the show would still sell out. I'll believe it at the end of November if nothing has happened by then. Just my two cents.

I'm back to livin' Floridays

Jimmy personally mentioned to us re: Hamptons show
My wife, kids and I met Jimmy & Jane Buffett on Shelter Island's Southern Cross ferry over the 4th of July weekend (we have pictures to prove it), he was great to speak with, and did mention to us if we were coming to the Hamptons show in the fall. Unless something has changed since then, it sounded like he would be there........ If anyone would like to see the pictures we took with him, our e-mail is IsleReef@hotmail.com. I really hope he plays. Fins Up all.......
