In college we all thought we could just swirl and sniff, telling somebody else what to do. I learned fast... I do that (swirl and sniff), plus personnel management, production management, public relations (the dog and pony show) recordkeeping and data entry, government compliance, grape contract management, oversee vineyard operations, drive a forklift, plumbing, electrical work, purchasing, chief cook and bottlewasher...

To our Queen, working on her PC means Post Count :P

for the record, I count beans while posting during business hours. 8)

One major disadvantage of my job is that while I spend most of the day on my PC it is definitely not spent posting here. :(

Large companies have lots of rules. There are pages of documentation on what constitutes "abuse of the internet" during work hours.

Having been there for more years than I care to count (28? 29?) I know all about rules.....

I'm a journalist -- but I haven't really got my start yet. Recieved a degree in News Editorial Journalism last fall, worked in a public relations office at WVU for 7 months and now I'm working PT for Morgantown's recreation non-profit doing publicity, photos, etc.

Can anyone find Melli a good job? ;)

I'm a Third Party Purchaser for a huge global distributor of products for chemical companies, biomedical research, lifesciences, etc. We have a really big catalog for selling directly to our customers, but my division is considered "procurement". Only certain customers (really big, think Dupont, BristolMyers, etc) can also be Third Party customers. I receive the orders via computer, and in turn place them with our suppliers. It's actually more interesting than it sounds. I've seen some truly bizarre (or scary) products ordered - the most memorable one being 5-gallon tubs of "artificial stool" :o in varying consistenciesImage. Never found out what its intended use was.

I've been there for about 3 1/2 years, but I've only been doing this since June. Prior to that, it was accts payable, same department. I really like what I do - it's challenging, and there's minimal customer contact *thank goodness*.

I get to work on and around Space Station and Shuttle flight hardware in Florida. I know JB is a fan of the Space Program so it has its distance connections. Best part is, I live on the beach and it is warm most of the year. Lets me surf, boat and fish when time permits and it's only a few hours to the Keys!!!
