Great thinking there Matt......I second everything you said. However, there is one element to Mr. Buffett that rides across the top of everything public that he does:

HE HAS TOTAL RESPECT AND ADMIRATION FOR HIS PHANS!!!!!

By his own admission, he looks at entertaining us as his "summer job" that he loves so much. Think he has to tour each summer? Think that February southern thing was because he needed money or ego gratification? Think he couldn't charge more for tickets (look what people get on eBay or what Eagles tickets cost - that would really p*ss me off if I were a "eaglehead"!) Think he went to MOTM last year becasue he was bored? He is as amazed at Parrotheadism as you and I are. He looks out in the parking lots in awe and appreciation of us. He looks on these boards and is amazed that people who don't know eachother "know eachother" through the one common thread of being a Parrothead. He is touched by the things we do (charity stuph, the cookbook, Z's buttons, and so much more) and takes in pride in his connection to it.

And (real important here) he insists on the same attitude in those who surround him professionally. That is a huge reason that the public organization that is "Jimmy Buffett" delivers the Real McCoy every time he goes on stage, every time he puts out an album, every time he does a book. From Ramos, to Mac, Amy, Ralph, Utley and the band, to the truck drivers and roadies, us Phans are their common thread, and Jimmy demands it.

Anyway, therein lies the root of my respect for Jimmy Buffett. When I experience anything he does, I pheel he did it phor you and phor me.

My favorite thing about Jimmy is that I have something to look forward to every year. Every concert is a great time and I always enjoy myself. It's the one day of the year where I know I won't be disappointed!

Good Job Matt!!!

I have to bore you all with my Jimmy story!! First of all I was born and lived half my life in southern California. Beachgoing was very often and so beloved. My father has, as I do, a connection to salt water that runs very deeply. I have no memories of the water that are not purely wonderful. I now live in northern California. There is huge differences of opinion about northern and southern California. I of course, think southern is by far the best!! Anyway Jimmy Buffett came into my life by way of music way back when I didn't even realize it was "Jimmy". His music has been a part of my life for so long I can't even remember him not being there. I have wanted to go to see him live for 7 years and I finally got tickets to the Vegas show. I still can't believe I actually get to see him. My children and husband know the words to more songs than SYKBH because Jimmy is always on. He has been and continues to be, a positive force in my life. Everything I do is connected to his music. He is the greatest form of theropy there is. I'm sure I would have a he!! of a time living without him. Thanks for your patience with this very long post.

Great post Matt. I'm with you on the positives. I think for me, Jb's music can brighten a day and make things a little better, great company when traveling. The concerts are a total attitude adjustment, a real lift, and the words to his songs have great meaning. There are many other things I could list, but I'll just say ditto to the other posts.

wow! This was a great idea Matt. I think , most people in general LOOK for negative things in this world ( why else would the tabloids be so popular). As "younger pirate", you have brought in a breath of fresh air! If we all could only keep that "eyes wide open" perspective in our daily lives that you seem to have. And maybe that's why I LOVE Jimmy so much.. He give all of us a chance to be kids again. His music provides me the opportunity to daydream like I did when I was young. His music inspires me to dance around the house just because, to walk barefoot in the summer grass just as the morning dew is beginning to float upwards toward the heavens, to sit on my back porch and remember my dad and to share good times with friends. His music makes me believe that truly someday I will, learn to sail, live at the beach, teach my children about the good things in life, and to sit on my porch and remember.....

I know this is rambling, train of thought writing....but Matt's post just made me think...

Peace Pholks! :D

Probably my favorite "good thing" is the opportunity he provides to meet other like-minded folks and get some good friendships & relationships going.

Fins up!

I think the number one reason Jimmy is so great is that no matter how bad my day was, no matter how many things go wrong sometimes, you can always listen to a good Buffett song and immediately all worries are gone. I can't think of any other thing that can do that. Except maybe hard drugs, but Buffett is better for you.

Good topic.
I ditto alot of what has been said in the previous posts. I think what I enjoy most about Jimmy is the fact that after a hard-days work; i can go out to my car and for my 30 minute drive home I have time to listen to the man and his music and ease the stress level so that I can be somewhat sane when I get home to my lovely wife. He is the only artist that I think (and probably alot of PHs think); I can relate to. I think the genuine friendliness you see from most PHs is a factor as well. I was on vacation with my wife in May of 2002; I was reading Pirate Looks at Fifty down by the pool we were staying; I must've had 5-6 people come chat about Buffett. It's a great group of people.

Jimmy 3:16 For god so loved the world that he sent down his son of a son of a sailor, so that we might find happiness and everlasting good times!

Jimmy is an idol, sure. He is what many of us wannbe... But he is a real person. (no way!) (yes, flesh and bone...) (get outta here!)

He lives his own life and we get to enjoy pieces of it... lots and lots of pieces...

The folks who are angry about what he does need to join the Marines and go to Kuwait!

Okay guys. I hate to bring back a topic that I started. But reading through the bords, I see maybe 1 complement on Buffett to maybe every 3 negitives. I mean no offence, but I was reading through the MMIM thread, and I stopped reading before I even made it to the third page, because I didnt see many up sides listed. Please guys, I really dont wanna go talk to PARROTHEADS bad-mouthing Buffett, it makes me sad. Personally I cant wait to get my greedy lil hands on this new CD, cuz' I love the new versions, it helps Buffett, I like the liner notes, theres probibly video footage, it increases my collection, and I love hearing Buffett sing old songs in these new days. So please, make a few more Buffett complements here. I didnt mean to be rude or offensive to anyone with this post. :D
