Seeking Counselor Bob?

Post by gowarm »

It's amazing the things the mind is capable of. The other night I recalled the following story to Lola Bunny and it got me to thinking. I'd like to know if anyone out there can help.

Back when I was a boy in the 70's I went to a CYO day camp in Paramus, New Jersey. The camp was held most of the summer in the parking lot and lunchroom of Paramus Catholic High School. We'd also go on day trips as well as to the county park (Darlington) where we would learn to swim. I attended this camp for six or seven years so I'm not sure of the date, but I recall one of our councelors coming to camp one day wearing a Jimmy Buffett T-shirt. Probably a tour shirt. Now being a boy of 8 to 10 years I, as well as my fellow campers in the group had no idea who Jimmy Buffett was. One boy, heck, it may have been me, asked who Jimmy was and our councelor preceded to name a few songs including Cheeseburger in Paradise and went on to teach us the chorus. Imagine 10-12 pre-teen boys clapping and singing "I like mine with lettuce and tomato, Heinz 57 and french fried potato" all the way up to lake on the big yellow school bus.

Well after that encounter it was nearly 20 years before I truly recognized who Jimmy Buffett was and of course now I'm a full-fledged Parrot Phanatic, but the story got me to wondering about my old camp councelor and wondering if he's still part of the phlock. Now memory may serve me wrong, it has been awhile for sure, but I believe it was Bob Parker. If this story sounds familiar to anyone or counselor Bob himself let me know.
