The above post is a very accurate description of the way things are with Jimmy Buffett now. Other people are writing the songs, its just kind of sad that we are lead into believing that Buffett is still very much apart of the writing process, when in fact he isn't anymore. It's like he now approaches a new album by asking the Coral Reefers, and other outside writers what they have come up with, while he has only written one song and purchased other artists stuff. And even more recently, he hasn't even used the Coral Reefers songs with strong exception to Mac Macanally. Which I don't think is the best choice! Hence the change in musical direction over the last two albums. The "island sound" really comes from Utley,Greenidge, and MacDonald. And when was the last time they got writing credits???? I don't care if he doesn't release another album for 5 years, I just want one more "island inspired Jimmy Buffett" album with new material written by him and the core of the Coral Reefer band! Hence the orginal material on Fruitcakes/ Barometer Soup/Banana Wind! I don't think it will happen though!

Changing Channels, you are right. Jimmy doesn't right many songs anymore which i don't really like that. However i like FSOTW and BHOTM about as much as SOSOSOAS which jimmy wrote every song on there except one.

I don't think Buffett is God, and of course their are things about him that I disagree with (like political views most of the time), but I still love his music. Like everyone else has said, I love his writing and musical style, and while I love albums like BHOTM and FSOTW, he writes less and less. He's been given a great song-writing talent and I'd like to see him put it to more use. I don't mind cover songs or the Reefers helping him out, but it's usually his own songs that I find I like the best. Hopefully there will be more of those on his new album.

First of all it has been mentioned a few times, but no one seems to be paying attention. This is an MCA release and Not a Mailbot records release. This is the last one for Jimmy on MCA and we are extremely lucky he has done what he has with Meet me in Margaritaville. He could have very easily put out nothing new what so ever on this album. Instead he did rerecord old songs and put some live stuff on FOR the Parrotheads. As far as Jimmy writing new songs granted he doesn't write as much of his own stuff but on Far Side, two of my favorite songs he has ever written are on that album, FSOTW and Someday I will. Sometimes it's the quality and not the quanity. The most amazing thing about the Negative posts towards this upcoming album, is they almost all conclude with, "But I am buying the album anyway". There can only be one reason why and that it is Jimmy Buffett and he has given so much to us over the years and no matter what it is true Parrotheads want to hear it.

Yes to what Guest said.

Rumor has it that MCA was going to release another greatest hits collection anyway - they own the masters to a lot of those old hits and can put out records without Jimmy's permission anytime they want. Supposedly Jimmy heard about it and figured he would at least make it something worth having and contributed a bunch of remakes etc.

But again it wasn't Jimmy deciding to remarket old stuff - MCA made that call. Jimmy is simply trying to make it something worth having, not just tracks from all the MCA CDs we own...

I agree with Key Lime Lee and the Guest. I'm thankful that Jimmy has say in what goes into the album, and I'm thankful that he does things like this for his fans. Only one more month! :D

Wouldn't you like to see a 4 dvd set of live concert footage, a disc from each decade. (sounds like something Paul McCartney would do, well, has done) This would keep me happy on a cold Saturday night in February. Never ending happyhour at my bar!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :pirate:
