When I look up 'pavilion' in the dictionary, it is spelled with one 'l'. Yet it seems that 3 out of 4 people on this board spell it with two.

Is it some secret parrothead spelling? Like fun being 'phun'? Or because Buffett has two t's. I remember long ago that parrothead was usually spelled 'parrotthead.' Is that why?

Please let me know.... I'm always striving to know the latest lingo.

Nothing secret that I know of. Correctly spelled, it does indeed have only one "l."

I no I spell it rong all of the tyme. That's wy I usually only post during the showz where Nicki helps me with mi speling

Could be a typo, thats what I blame my bad spelling on.

OK this is what I gather if you go to the various sites of venues they spell it with 2 L's merriweather, nissan, all of 'em... maybe its kind of like colour vs. color... whatever... just my opinion

Kenpo.....I really thought you might be on to something with your color, colour theory. Except that both color and colour are in the dictionary and pavillion is not (at least not mine).

I even went and looked at all those venue sites....thought maybe it was an 'out east' thing. They all used one 'l' too.

While searching for the venues, I did come across a whole sh*tload of ticket broker sites that spelled it wrong. Hmmmmmm..... maybe it's actually the secret ticket broker spelling.

The french spelling is pavillon. They leave out the last i, but there are 2 l's. But I'm not giving anybody credit for spelling either of them right or wrong because they forgot which language they were using.

When I type Pavilion with two I's in Microsoft word spell check doesn't see it as wrong, when I spell it with one I it picks it up as a spelling error! Although I consider myself a victim of spell check, I used to be a great speller until spell check took over my life, i know spell words wrong on purpose assuming spell chack will correct it, sometimes I spell words so bad spell check doesn't offer and suggestions

KL: I, too, am a victim of spellcheck. I always spelled it with 2 l's....until spellcheck caught me when I wrote the story for the show in Dallas last year. Still looks weird to me, though.

from the old english word Pavilon. Adapted from the old french word Paveillon, which has since become the current french Pavillon. Adapted from the latin word Papilion, Papilio, translates as butterfly, which in french is Papillon.

The butterfly references come from the wing spread of the insect creating a canopy effect, which reflects the current meaning of the english word pavilion as a tent, building, structure, that creates a cover, and then makes it somewhat analagous to Gazebo.

I guess Webster never had tickets to see Buffett.

O.K.. let me get this straight....

Latin....... becomes old english........becomes a HUGE french butterfly hovering over the concert stage. I got it now! Many thanks!

I think I'll keep spelling it like the dictionary does, with one 'L' and two 'I's,...but from now on I will always think of butterflies when I do.

Parotthed....We all know that the spelling of THAT word is purely dependent on how many Margaritas you've had.

My daughter spells it jimmy barf-it... but then again, she knows the words to Jimmy's songs better than I do... she's young and still has a good memory... I do know how to spell In Stink tho!!!!

I think you spell pavilion properly as "venue".... or "good times"...?
