I am not sure that Jimmy deserves to be mentioned in the same breath as bands like ACDC. All I can say is brilliant musicianship and songwriting ( see songs such as Big Balls, Ballbreaker, Ball Destroyer, Ball Flamer, Ball Buster, Ball Muncher, and many other variations of Ball Songs )

JIMMY HAS BEEN A LONGTIME MEMBER IN THE HALL OF FAME OF MY HEART, MIND AND SOUL!

Here's the reply I got. Notice the spelling of Jimmy's name . You would think the President would at least know how to spell it.

There is no doubt that rock and roll would not be what it is without the contribution of Jimmy Buffet. At the same time, you should realize that we receive literally thousands of such recommendations, many of which are as worthy as yours.

The entire nomination and induction process is coordinated by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation in New York City. The only criteria is that an artist has to have had their first record 25 years ago. First, the selection of inductees begins with an extensive panel of journalists, historians, previous inductees, industry heads, etc. In turn, those nominated are sent to a committee of more than a 1000 people around the world (journalists, historians, music industry management, all previous inductees, etc.) who vote. Those receiving the highest number of votes and more than 50% of the votes cast are inducted into the Hall. Usually, this means five to seven new members each year. So you can see the road to being inducted is an arduous one and completely out of the realm of influences or politics.

On top of this, people sometimes forget that rock and roll and its artists are viewed in an incredibly subjective manner by any individual brought into the circle of discussion. As such, there is often widespread disagreement or fracturing of opinion about who is or was important. From my perspective, time will tell. I really think that all deserving candidates will have their moment eventually. Unfortunately, it often isn’t the time frame they or their fans desire. Remember too, many of the sports greats do not get into their respective Halls of Fame right away either.

It would be great if Jimmy got inducted into the rock and roll hall of fame, but if he doesn't, who cares! It's not going to make his music or his "sold out" concerts any better. His music is great without having that "Rock & Roll Hall of Fame" sticker on it that he has never even tried to get in the first place. Did you forget "I'll never work in dis bidness again"? He doesn't need it. He already has "it". And that "it" is us - his phans.

I'm sure he would appreciate being inducted into the hall of fame, but do you think he gives it a second thought. Don't you think he is more concerned with flying and going fishing and surfing and spending time with his kids and burying his feet in the sand with a boat drink?

And I have to agree with Luni'sBackYard - Jimmy is already in the Hall of Fame in ALL of our hearts, minds and souls. If he wasn't, you wouldn't be posting here.

I submitted my vote for Jimmy into the Hall of Fame. I didn't know he played baseball though. . .

As for that last post I posted, I didn't mean to p**s anyone off, but I really don't think Jimmy cares that much about it. Although I've already been wrong twice this morning.

And fleshandbone, if you haven't heard of The Clash - who did have their 15 minutes in the early 80's - then you probably haven't heard of a lot of individuals and groups in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. I'm not saying this to "dis" you, but The Clash did have their day. Not only were they good, but they were also influential.

I will at least bring up the Jimmy gave the induction speech to the R&R HOF for his old friends the EAGLES. I believe that's as close as Jimmy will get to the this place. I'm sure that this Hall means more to fans of musicians than the musicians themselves.
Personally I don't think Jimmy belongs in the RRHOF. He deserves HIS OWN HALL OF FAME.

Mr. Jimmy Buffett....???? he's an American Icon,,
granted it may not be everyone's flavor but do you think
all of us actually like everyone that's been inducted in the past?

I can't find an email address. I tried to call them (212-445-0105) and I keep getting an operator message saying "Your access to this long distance provider's network is not authorized". This alternates with the phone being answered and my getting a fax machine signal.

B.F. Pirate may have hit on something. Jimmy owns parts of a couple of baseball teams, so if we can't get him in the Rock and Roll Hall, why not Cooperstown? Also, as far as Jimmy not being rock and roll enough for the hall, one past inductee is Brenda Lee, I'm sure J.B. can rock a place far better than she could.
