Dude,

Remember when you said that you wouldn't feel right profiting from your friends... Well, that (for the most part) is the same scenario that's happening here. A vast majority of the people who frequent this web-site are indeed friends.

So in a sense it's really not so different from you getting 8 tickets and then having a few of your ex-boyfriends get wind of it and you offer them up for face value. Well, except for the fact that you'd have a hidden agenda... :P :o

Get lost!!

OK ... this thread was just too annoying to pass up. :x

We have been extremely lucky over the years with getting tickets to the Atlanta shows. We don't always get as many as we want, but we always wind up getting some tickets. There was one year however, that will stick in my head forever. We went to a Ticketmaster outlet with another couple to stand in line in the cold. I drew # 4 in the Lottery, my husband drew #10 & one of our phriends drew #12. So ... we thought we had at least 20 lawn seats for sure - maybe 30 (BTW ... the limit for lawn seats at Lakewood has been 10 as long as we have been going - 16 years!). This particular ticketmaster did not take orders for tickets after the lottery & to top it off, they had a trainee on the computer that day! This was one of the last years that Jimmy did 2 shows in Atlanta, so we were willing to take either the Thursday or the Saturday show. Because of the incompetence of the staff at this ticketmaster outlet, only the first 2 people in line got tickets - in other words, two shows completely sold out before they could process 2 orders!  :x Thankfully, we had friends at another outlet that scored 20 tickets, so we made it to the show.

This year, on the other hand, we were extremely lucky! :D :D :D My husband and father-in-law went to a ticketmaster outlet that just opened up not far from us. There were only 10 people in line and they drew #'s 3 & 8. The first 8 people wound up with tickets, which gave us 20. :D Meanwhile, I left a seminar that I was attending and called on my cell phone, scoring another 10! :D

My point of these tales is that getting tickets to popular shows (whether it is Jimmy, Springsteen, Eagles, Cher, or any other popular act) is a very indirect science which is totally based on LUCK! We usually rely on the old go stand in line routine, since I have never had luck on the phones or Internet. However, a previous commitment kept me from standing in line this year & the phone route worked. You just never know. Luck certainly plays a part because the lottery system (which all ticketmaster outlets are bound by contract to hold) is a total luck of the draw & even if you get a good lottery number, that still doesn't guarantee you tickets. Even the brokers and scalpers don't have an advantage, except that they hire tons of people at minimum wage to stand in line ... of course the odds are better when you flood the lines with your people!

So ... let's just all be nice Parrotheads :D Some people wind up with more tickets than they need for various reasons. Some people loose out on tickets for various reasons (seldom laziness). Why can't these Parrotheads work together for everyone's good? :) We have always sold any extra tickets at face value (once unknowingly to a scalper in the parking lot :x :( ). Hopefully we've helped someone not as lucky enjoy what we so enjoy & look forward to ... seeing Jimmy live! :D :D
Indecision may or may not be my problem.

Ok Hal...........I gotta throw my 2 cents in as well. I have been going to Buffett for so long I remember seeing him in a bar in Austin Texas back in the early 70's. (ok so I vaguely remember seeing him but that's a different story). This year I was second in line AFTER the stupid lottery. There were 3 of us there to get at total of something like 15 tickets. Because I was second in line I got the reserved seats. Remember SECOND IN LINE. The best I could do was in the back of the reserved section. I had the tickets paid for by 10:02. I have several friends here on this board that did not get their tickets to their desired show and I know for a fact they did everything in their power to obtain a ticket. Just because one camps out all night long to get tickets dosn't necessarily mean they get tickets. It was true back in the "old" days and it is true today.

Since your are a newbie you assumed that the people complaining about not getting tickets got up late. You assumed they did not go to extra measures to obtain their ticket. Do you know what it means to assume????

Parrotheads, parrotheads, parrotheads.

Our vibrations are becoming hostile. Let's not start dragging this board into some type of insult flinging, childish back and forth dialogue that is not in the least bit interesting to read.

If a post upsets you, don't read it. And certainly don't respond with petty arguments, thus drawing the post into a long 4 or 5 page thing.

I suggest we all take a sip of our favorite libation (might I suggest something with Tequila in it), turn on some Buffett, and simply get back to the good natured vibes that this board has always been about.

My two cents...

Cheers! :D

My initial post was about all the whiny going on in blaming Ticketmaster, lotteries, etc... for their lack of luck in obtaining tickets when other people tackled the same issues and were still able to get tickets. It's obvious Jimmy has more fans than seats so get a small group of your friends together and try your best using different methods to get tickets but if you are unable to, look for tickets elsewhere but save the sob story for someone who cares.

I completely understand where a lot of the die hard Parrotheads who communicate on a regular basis (ph4ever has 8,500+ post in less than eight months?) would be willing to give up extra tickets at cost but what I don't like are the posts in the Ticket Exchange where people are looking for six, ten, even 15 tickets at cost. Those sound a little sketchy to me.

One of the topics that pushes everyone's buttons

This thread is like the scene in the film JAWS where Robert Shaw, Roy Scheider and Richard Dreyfuss are comparing their scars.

Clearly ticketmaster scars run deep, and no one can legitimately claim that they work harder than everyone else when it comes to ticketmaster purchases. Everyone sets their own limits, and often those limits are based on personal situations that can change from year to year. And to say that others don't put in the effort required is an over simplification of the entire "ticketmaster experience".

If you knowingly buy more tix than you need, i.e. more than the number of persons you know to be within the group you are purchasing for, then you knowingly are putting yourself in a situation where you can take advantage of someone else's inability to obtain tix on their own. How much you choose to charge for the extra tix you have is probably best covered in another thread, but how you are judged is going to be a direct reflection of how you choose to quantify your "extra" efforts in obtaining them. How much effort is involved on ticketmasters part when it comes to their additional fees? Whether it's fair or not, you will run the risk of putting yourself in that boat.

Which brings us back to one of my all time favorite movie lines...again another JAWS reference: "You're going to need a bigger boat" :o
Now I've got a terminal daydream,
That's something you'll never know
I keep it right here in my backpack, mon
And I take it wherever I go.

WOW!!!

Three years or so I've been lurking around this board, stopping in for a little midday stress relief and I don't ever remember hostility like this!!

I used to think the "my parking lot is better than your parking lot" threads provoked a lot of emotion (btw, GREATWOODS RULES!!) but this takes the cake! To stoop low enough to pick on peoples spelling?.... jeez.

Can't we put this one to bed and move on to better topics?

Tiki, if you care about every sob story you read in the Ticketexchange you are being suckered.

Perfect example is this post.

NEED 10 FOR MERRIWEATHER, AND AS MANY AS 15 FOR NISSAN. CAN YOU HELP US?

Do you feel for this die hard Parrothead?

Everyone has a ticketmaster story. Unfortunately, most of the stories are ones we end up drinking over.

I agree that getting tickets is more about luck then preparation. Some years I was part of a group trying to get tickets via phone, outlet and internet and we came up with zilch. Other years (like this year) I had my tickets paid for by 10:04.

If someone has a science on buying tickets, please let the rest of us know (we promise we won't tell).

I don't understand when someone comes to the board and his sum total of posts consists of nothing more than starting trouble. I don't understand someone questioning the number of posts I have or the time it took for me to get them. Maybe I have all these posts because I came in here being nice to people and developed many friends that I will go to bat for any day of the week and I know many of them would do the same for me.

Suckered, or am I just a nice person?

Whomever is looking for 10 and 15 may be a scalper, I guess, but they may be in the same boat, or bus, my group is every year. Tix are tough to get. If I had extras, I would help them out and take a chance on them being a die-hard phan like the rest of us.

That being said - I'm done arguing. On to more positive vibes, and I hope you can do the same, for everyone's sake. The last thing the world needs right now is more hostility.

Up, up with people!

There is no perfect formula for getting tickets, you could stand in line for hours but there is NO guarantee that they won't sell out of tickets by the time they get to you. You could be the seventh person in line at a particular out let and not get tickets. I had nine people working on getting tickets for Great Woods, 1 of us was lucky enough to get them.

it is more luck then preparation anymore ...... The past 2 years I planned, and had everything all lined up. The only reason I got any tixs the last 2 years is because of the friendships I have developed here .....

This year I didn't do any planning at all (ok I did, but I was sick with fever of 103, so all the planning was out the window) I got up, got on line got my tixs to both Merriweather & Nissan, and went back to bed ...... I don't think there is a science.

And as for all of the hostility, don't we have enough of that in the real world????

You want my opinion on this thread? Well you're getting it anyway.

Why? What's the argument and why are we arguing with each other? Watch my Camden video, I may have been drunk (I know MAY HAVE?) but I meant what I said. We are all here for one purpose, to communicate with each other and to share fun times that may or may not relate to Jimmy Buffett.

Everyone has bad stories and bad days but the fact remains that hostility only breeds hostility. What good is getting angry what purpose does that serve? I know the only thing it does for me is get me more angry while others around me go "jeeze what's wrong with him? What's with the attitude"

Someone already said, and thank you JimmyDreams for doing what I usually do and say. Sit back relax have a drink.

Don't you think that there is enough un-necessary violence in the world right now? This is a haven for those who want to escape the everyday shitty environment we currently are living in and are bringing our children up in.

Listen to Crosby Stills Nash and Young "Teach Your Children" Listen real hard, theres a message there.

Read Dr. Seuss the Lorax, there is a message there.

Please don't fight here this is a non-violent area.

Remember in the words of Fribble WE LOVE MOTHER EARTH, well we should learn to love each other for who they are.

Peace.

Greg.
