Not sure what you mean by "nightlife", but the Galleria area tends to hop and isn't far at all from downtown... if that would be your preference, there are two Westin hotels that anchor the Galleria proper, a Doubletree Suites which is nice a block or so west of there on Westheimer, and a "regular" Doubletree (pretty standard hotel, but not as pricy as the others) about two blocks north on Post Oak. Also a Marriott across from the Doubletree Suites and the former (can't remember what it is now, but if you want upscale, this is it) Ritz-Carlton just east of the Galleria. Downtown, of course, the Four Seasons is nice, as is the Meridien -- the Hyatt is standard Hyatt and NOISY.

Bixx all those Hotels that Well_Duh mentioned are nice. That part of town offers easy access to what ever you might want to do in Houston. I Recommend trying one of the following restaurants. 1) The Ragin Cajun on Richomnd Ave. in the Galleria Area. It is very casual, the food is really good, and you will feel like you are in New Orleans. 2) Luling BBQ on Richmond is also very good Hill Country Stlye BBQ. As far as entertainment goes The Big Easy Blues club on Kirby always has a good band, as well as a place called The Hideaway on Dunvale.

absolutely being from the land ofgreat woods, we are used to starting our tailgate very early, so i would guess we would be there by 2, look for the corona guy and we'll be next to him, we be the ones with the boston accent.
we were thinking of staying in galeveston the night before, is it worth spending a monday night there? is the beach nice, far from the woodlands?

Nice?
Galveston?
Guess that depends on what you consider a nice beach?
It isn't bad, but it is not a pretty white sandy beach with blue water.
I think the band is suppose to start playing about 3ish at Papa's.

Guys don't be so rough on Glaveston. I've been to a some of the best beaches in the United States, and Galveston is not one of them, but it will do if you need a beach. The city really has tried to improve the surroundings, and at times it can be a really nice get away. Along the sea wall there are some new bars, retaurants open. One place I really like is "The Spot". They do a mean cheese burger
, and have a deck looking out on to the beach. There are really nice beach hotels there, and the rest are motels. One is Hotel Galvez, and the name of the other slips my mind. Galveston is about 40 miles south of Houston on Interstate 45, and the Woodlands are about 20+ miles north of Houston on the same highway. Maybe try staying somewhere on Lake Conroe? That is on the north side of town, and close to the Woodlands.

I'm not saying Galveston is bad, it just depends on what you expect.CalypsoCoog wrote:Guys don't be so rough on Glaveston. Sometimes the Chamber of Commerce pics aren't what you get.
We went to some of the FL beaches thinking blue water and white beaches, but didn't see either.
The beaches were nice, just not what we were expecting
