A retirement facility just for Parrotheads

Post by Clearwater Tom »

Aloha,

I am toying with an idea and just wondering aloud if something along this line has a large enough commercial appeal. Care to help me with my "feasibility study"?

Here is the overview:
Like it or not someday we are all going to find ourselves looking for a little piece of paradise where we can wind down in 3/4 time - and spend the final decades of life.
Ideally we can all afford to be where we want to be... For me that will be in Hawaii... likely on the big island with a view of sunsets on the Pacific.
So what if a sumptious retirement facility just for Parrotheads were to spring up in a few highly select places?
Some locations would be more exotic - but all designed around a Parrothead lifestyle. The concept is to create the environment that will make retirement as just as stimulating or as laid back as one wants. With like minded folks. Abundant opportunities for creative activities and of course a Tiki bar by the pool. Picture daily ceremonial sunsets...wholesome food and Jimmy's songs softly playing in the background...

Does this picture of retirement work for you - or someone you know?
While I don't think it would be suitable for everybody - I do think it is an intriguing idea. What do you think?

I'd like to explore in depth the feasibility of this with anyone who wants to share their thoughts, suggestions, expertise or possible participatory interests.

Thanks,

Clearwater Tom

It sounds like a cool concept! One thing you may want to research, though, is the financial demographics of the group you are targeting. What I mean by that, is how well have they planned for retirement? A lot of pholks are just getting by (the "fabulous 80's that Jimmy sang about are long gone....sigh....) Do your homework; you may be onto something here, and that's the only way to find out. Also, learn LOTS about what's involved in running a "typical" retirment community, so that you know what the "standard" is that you're comparing your product to.

Today's business 101 lesson is now concluded. Best of luck! :D

I agree with what phjrsaunt has said. All good points.

I would definitely be up for that. I'm only 22 now, so maybe by the time I'm ready to retire there will be several of them set up for me!

What a phantastic idea! ! ! Look at the growing number of phans and the various ages of us all. You could really be on to something. Everyone has brought up some very important facts but I really think the main one without a doubt is... location, location, location! ! ! There are many places you can go to talk to people about starting a business like this. Contact a financial advisor and see if they can recommend a company that will back you financially.
We all try and stay in touch with our insanity one way or another but some day we will all need help and a place to go, I could think of no better place.
Good luck and let us know how you make out

Location, Location, Location! This looks like a fine spot for the future Margaritaville Home for the Aged Parrothead!

Bonds Cay 600 acres (242.81 ha) US $7,500,000

This very large private island is situated in the Berry Islands, near Nassau. The island is completely undeveloped, and has dense vegetation. Bonds Cay has 3 salt pond lakes, and 5 major beaches, including 2 beaches at the southern end of the island which form a small bay with a depth of 15-18 feet (4.6 - 5.6 metres). The highest elevation on the island is 66 feet (20 metres). Midway along the eastern side are several potential building sites, with great ocean views. An airstrip could be built on the island to provide easier access.

I'm definitely interested in moving in, but hopefully it'll be about 50 years before I'm ready. Then again, with Parrotheads surrounding me as neighbors, I might be ready now!
Today is the tomorrow you spent yesterday worrying about. Was it worth it?

Sadly, I don't have 7.5 mil either. lol Though if I did, it seems pretty reasonable for a private 'St. Somewhere' island that is 3 miles long. :o

Last night instead of counting sheep to fall asleep, I was mentally building my own little paradise on that island. Nice dreams! :D

LOL  Yea, but the first thing I put up was a hammock tied between two palm trees. So, I fell asleep swingin in the hammock with the sounds of waves lapping on the beach. Ahhhhhhh :D
