Down to Earth (first JB album)

Post by f2cdlzrd »

I was reading today that 'Down to Earth' was Jimmy's first album and it only sold 324 copies. Does anyone own this and/or how can I get a copy? Thanks so much; I appreciate your help.

It was re-released on CD a few years back. I know I've seen it at Best Buy and some other places. I'm sure that you could find it on Amazon (and help Buffettnews at the same time by linking there from here  ).

Fair warning, though: it is a straight-ahead early-70s folk album, complete with protest songs about the social and political conditions of the day. So don't expect to hear any steel drums or songs about sailing off to tropical islands.

Still definitely worth a listen, though.

Yeah, it was rereleased on barnaby record label. It would be easier to go to Best Buy and buy Before the Beach. That is an album released in the 90s on margaritaville records which has that complete album and the high cumberland album (his second) on it. That way you get his first two albums for the price of one.

Like daddymention mentioned, look for it on eBay. You'll find either the CD or possibly the LP. Its definately ranked 5 to 8 in my JB album favs, so you should at least download some mp3s of it to see if you like it. It gets regular play on my stereo 8)

I think most of those songs are excellent! Wierd thing is Jimmy said once, "I put out a couple of albums before I ever took this ***t seriously". I sure like those songs a lot for it being just goofing around.

I got it from margaritaville.com I think, fair warning if you are a newer phan like myself it is a little tough to listen to, there are however a couple good tracks. But it is pure country folk music no doubt about it some would (like the cobo people that this stuff was better than what he put out later, after he discovered the caribbean rythyms etc.

Like others have said, you can find it online or in a lot of music and book stores. A little different, but I really like it. :D
