New CD question????????

Post by fishinthepilins »

I'm probably a week or two late wiith this question, but I'm wondering about the Volcano version. Its not marked "New", but the "Don't want to land's" are obviously not very old. Especially "Kuwait City" and "Mulluh Omar" Anyone know when its from, or if there's a story?

Im guessing that its the old version with a new ending. I listened to it closely a few times to figure it out, and it seems like up to the end it is the old version because at the switch Jimmys voice changes a little, and Im not sure that they could re-record the whole song to soud that close. But that is just guessing on my part. Hope I helped! :D

That was the same conclusion I came to. You're wise beyond your years....or we're both just guessing  So, why not call it new?

Thanks for your input

According to the booklet with the cd it states:

03. Volcano
(Buffett-Dailey-Sykes)
Produced by Norbert Putnam
From the album Volcano (1979)
Additional recording in 2003
2003 MCA records

Hope this helps, I dont know why he wouldn't list it as a new recording?

I thought it was fun.

I liked "Don't want to land upside down in Nantucket"

Yeah, it's cool to hear a different version. You could tell that that part was rerecorded just because his voice was a little off from the original 79 recording.

I wish Margaritaville had the "lost verse" added on this disc
in the same way. The version on the new cd, I've got on
probably (4) other cd's. As always, G.M.,Jr.

I agree with you Gardner Jr. Doesn't it say in "Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays" that the record company made him cut out that lost verse for time restrictions? So I'm gathering that he originally had that verse in the song and they made him remove it so if he has the full version recorded back from 77, why not release it?

To bring this back to life for a second...on Volcano, during the new "Don't want to lands", if you listen to it REAL LOUD, you can hear the original recording in the background. It's creepy-like. He's singing on top of himself.

Just something I picked up on.

there are obviously new instrumental tracks laid over the original ones. this is not really to common, plus you need the original master tape (if your using the original recording). that tape must have some mojo on it to last over 30 years
