Wow, CSN really put on a show last night. Anyone who thinks Jimmy does Southern Cross better hasn't seen CSN play it live

Even without Neil

OK, who is with me on this..... San Diego IS becoming the west coast show of the future. The young pholks (21 and under) are all over Irvine causing a wee bit of police trouble (as well as a few older pholk), making the Irvine PD having a tough time between their former cool personage to now having to be a real PD.
Chule Vista PD on the other hand, still pretty stable. The parking lot is really getting hot as our beaches.
I wholeheartedly agree! I've always gone to Irvine, but did the road trip to Chula Vista a few years back and was pleasantly surprised! Although we still had a great time at Irvine Meadows, (I'm in agreement about not wanting to call it Verizon

the parking lot at Coors Ampitheater was definitely more laid back and had fewer problems with young partygoers who took things too far. Last year in Chula Vista, the fire department even got in on the action and joined us for some fun!
I'm waiting with anticipation like the rest of you for the concert dates to be announced! When Jimmy, when????!!!!

My .02 worth....Chula Vista is the best kept, maybe not any longer, secret in the nation. The Tailgating and the parking lot offer so much. The parking is plentyful and venue is central to the lots. My only problem was the venue staff being undestaffed and not opening all the gates before the show creating long lines...with a little flared tempers added.

Does everyone agree SD will most likely have a Tuesday show? Not that I would miss it, but last year I threw a large party(200+) and it works out so much better on Saturday. Irvine tickets are much harder to get as well, sold out in 20 minutes 2 years ago.

We just have to wait and see. Last year I guess Jimmy needed the money 5 months in advance (the interest alone pays for the operating costs of the show). In previous years I can remember finding out about West Coast dates here or on COBO's site in July and they would go on sale in mid-August.

sorry to burst your bubble there about the money. Any money collected
in ticket sales prior to a sale is placed into an escrow acct in the event the show does not go on also the promoter pays the venue, insurance, security
radio, newspaper adds, and any Bonds that the venue/Band require.
plus the overhead of the promotions co. the band is the last to get paid..
Also assuming that the performer DID get paid early,
lets do the math, figure 20,000 seats @ an average of 100$ (high but a
round number) thats 2,000,000 OK the preformer in this case gets
20% (Source JB interview in Playboy a few years back) But for inflation
I'll say 25% this is a cool 500,000 NOW lets figure intrest here if you
are major lucky you get 7% right now so per anum 7% of 500,00 is
35,000$ but wait you just said 5 months there so 35,00 for 12 months
divides into 2917$ a month so times 5 lets see thats not quite 15,000$
lets see not quite the pile we were thinking now is it. because
while 15,000$ is a bunch of money to me if you count just the heads
onstage, not the Roadies,drivers sound folks,ETC 15,000 $does not
amount to much yes it would help but a far cry from footing the bills

I remember that! The gate situation was a nightmare! (See photo below-- if I can get it to come out). Hopefully they'll learn from it and improve the situation this year.
All in all though, I still agree that the tailgating in SD is definitely worth the trip!

ragtopW - DUDE - you have got WAY too much time on your hands! Either that or you're some kind of accountant guy that spends days and nights doing figures! Have a margaritta!
Can't wait to hear the dates - will try to make both SD and Irvine - but Irvine is a definite - we'll just have to take out any of those under age weenies who cause trouble! I think there are enough of us "older and wiser" parrot heads to teach them a thing or two!

Hold on, a little bird whispered in my ear this past weekend....be sure to have Sept 25th open as well...

SITC,
9/25...a thursday...do you mean for San Diego or Irvine? If it's San Diego, that may mean he is taking a week between Irvine and SD, you have to think Irvine will be the usual Thursday/Saturday gig.
The good news...ONLY 4 MONTHs AWAY!

Maybe Jimmy also heard that SD has become THE WEST COAST SHOW instead of Irvine and is planning two shows there rather than Irvine!

Either way, I like the Sept date better than mid-October.

No No not an accountant just good in math, I do want to produce concerts
and/or festivels if and when I grow up so I have done my homework
as to where the money goes. Sorry if I got carried away but I would
like to think that JB issues tickets so far ahead so the Tribes have tiime
to gather/plan/arrange/etc. I hear folks make claims that are not
well thought out for a living, so when I hear " the Intrest pays for it all"
I have to set the record straight . I have to bite my tounge at work
and I'll try a little harder here . Wayne

Hey...
I thought the info was interesting, I always had the impression artists pocketed the dough, and kind of had a "float" of several shows worth of revenue. Now I stand corrected (of course someone does this to me everyday!)
Fins Up!
PS: Great Idea having SD being THE west coast show! Let's all show up at Coors at noon this year....

In 2000 Bubba did 2 SD shows and 1 Irvine show...maybe we will score 2 again this year!

A question about security at Irvine----Just went to see Pearl Jam last night at the meadows, they put on an awesome show. But in the parking lots were signs everywhere saying 'consumption of alcohol is prohibited.....etc.' Police showed up about an hour before the show and started warning people, said they would arrest us the next time they saw us with a beer, such BS. Then, they were patting everyone down at the gates, and they made me throw away a pint I was trying to get in. Is it just the younger crowd type scene they're worrying about, or does Jimmy's concerts there have similar security measures?

Honey Do was only teasing ragtop and giving him a hard time,

I stink at math, so you definitely lost me after the first sentence!

Jimmy's loaded no matter how ya look at it! The lucky guy - "living my life like a song!"
I remember security at Irvine being no problem. I think that the pearl jam, or was it nirvana, crowd is a tad bit different than the parrot head crowd! Last year, we had no problems, and even those few who were felt up by the cops didn't have problems. Hey, if the cop is good looking enough, I'll give up my secret stash for a good feel!
Two in SD, two in Irvine - either works for me! It's a road trip and a fun one - both places are great! Irvine has the cool areas in Newport Beach and SD has lot's of palces too, Gaslamp, Old Town, etc........
JUST GIVE US DATES PLEEEEEEZZZZZEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!

I was at the Pearl Jam concert in Irvine on Monday also. The police in the golf cart drove up to us and looked in the car. We all had a beer but they didn't say anything, and just drove on. Last year at Buffett they did a half search on us. There was also the big sign the said drinking was prohibited but you know how much they enforced it. But when we left the parking lot was trashed and I heard of things getting stolen, so it might not be as casual this year. They also didnt open the gates to the lot until like 3:00 or so. Maybe it will be a little more strict as far as the searches and even in the concert. At Pearl Jam this past Monday, security was also busting people up on the lawn for pot. I have never been to SD, may have to make the drive this year also.
