No Generation Gap Here

Just thought I'd mention that my daughter graduated from
high school yesterday, and the class valdictorian quoted the
following during his address: " As Jimmy Buffett once said,
if we weren't all crazy, we'd all go insane". The point being
Jimmy is an influence to people of all ages. As always, G.M.,Jr.

It's easy to see why that student was chosen for valedictorian. Congratulations to your daughter on her accomplishment. Phinz Up!

Great story. Thanks for sharing.
One of the greatest things about going to the shows is seeing all the YOUNG faces in the crowd....I took a graduating senior to the show this year....she's now bugging me for a copy of the all the CD's and she's already making plans for next year....there *IS* hope....!!!

Fantastic story, I think that most kids these days learn the
Parrothead ways through their parents - it is indeed a
state-of-mind and great way to look at life.
Just remember, "we are the people are parents warned us about."
It is only because of me do my kids know JB, his music
and many "buffettisms".
My daughter graduated last year and my son is only 8,
they both know and love most of JB's music. But would
never admit it!
However, when the music is playing in the car or at
home they can't help but to sing along. Or I just catch
them singing or humming his songs from out of nowhere.
...Hmmm?
I was at the store just the other day and a kid working there
(I say kid, but she was probably 17 or 18 ) saw my concert
T-shirt and asked if I was at the concert. She said it was the
funest concerts she'd ever seen. Way cool.
I recall a line from the movie "Sandlot" where Babe Ruth
comes from a dream of one of the characters. He says,
"heros are remembered, but legends never die".
I truly think that because of "us", Jimmy will be a legend,
and his music will be timeless.

Our club prez is just 25! His parents started taking him to concerts when he was just a keet'. Way cool. My neices and nephews are also big, okay, maybe not BIG, but they are quite familiar with Buffett. I remember my twin nephews riding in the car when they were about 6 or 7 and singing the words to Pencil Thin Mustache - they knew all of them!

I'm 19 and was introduced to the Parrothead lifestyle when I was 16. Me and probably 20 of my friends the same age all love Buffett

Some kid in my speech class used a line just like that in a speech, which I thought was pretty cool. I'm 17 and only been a fan for a about a year or so, but in that time I've discovered one of the greatest artists of all time. Phins up!

My 10-year-old (soon to be 11) knows and likes Buffett, although he probably wouldn't admit it. But I caught him singing along softly to Volcano in the car the other day — and he knew all the words! Guess that's because he's heard this music all his life.
In fact, we were watching TV recently when a commercial came on for a new Best of James Taylor CD and among the video clips was James singing "Mexico." My son turned to me and said, "Hey, he's singing a Jimmy Buffett song!"
I had to explain that Taylor wrote it and sang it first ... but to my son, it'll always be a Buffett song....

It's refreshing to hear the "older" crowd chime in about how nice it is that there are ParrotHeads of younger ages to carry the life forward.
Last year in Phoenix at the JB show, my small (4 person) group consisted of no one over the age of 21. We were ridiculed no less than 3 times by some of the "older" ParrotHeads for "being too young to appreciate what Jimmy has to say" and things of that nature. My response was: "I like him for the same reasons you do. Deal with it. Do you want us to all die off?" (I do respect my elders, blah, blah, blah.

)
Anyway, had to rant, but thanks to whoever posted here for the support of us "youngans." Maybe I just need a change of venue...Or maybe I'll meet up with you nice BNers for the next show in the desert.

The phirst show I went to in Tampa.........Feb of 2002......in the group of people I was with I was the youngest @ 29 and the oldest was 65 with a few generations in between. It was awesome.......and then in the seats in phront of us was a group of 3 boys who couldn't have been more than like 14 yrs old just totally rockin' out gettin' into every song! (of course how could you not, haha) It was great. Oh yeah, also, my daughter, who is 3 1/2, also totally loves Jimmy.......whenever we get into the car she requests him and then to my astonishment sings along to most of the songs!!! Of course, I'm sure it's because that's what she's subjected to approx 99.9% of the time

I introduced my 2 1/2 year old to Jimmy listening to the Vegas show, we danced, had a good time. Now when I play it she gets all excited.
The best part about it is when she goes back to her mother and talks about Jimmy Buffett
She's definatly not a PH. Guess that's just one of those things that make her my EX.

if those older groups are making fun of you because you dont 'understand' what jimmy is saying, then obviously THEY dont understand what jimmy has to say. they were once young, and just because they were too ignorant to understand what jimmy sings about doesnt mean everyone is is. like i said, im 21 and ive been a true phan since i can remember. one of the best feelings i get is connecting to the older phans, either online or especially at the shows. thank you to those older phans who accept us as equals, it means a lot
