We are longtime JB fans but new Parrothead Club members. We have decided to take the plunge and attend the PHIP Meeting of the Minds in Key West in late October 2003.
I'd like to know from any of the Meeting of the Minds alumni what we HAVE to make sure to do while there, what we MUST bring with us and is the Casa Marina a good place to be located?
Any advice would be appreciated.

MOTM is a blast, I have gone the last two years. I also grew up in south Florida so made many trips to the keys. I will send you a private email in the next few days with some info about Key West and the places to go.
As far as places to stay, the Casa Marina is a bit overpriced and really not "all that" as far as I am concerned. It's kind of nice to be close to the beach bash, but there are so many things going on and all at a bunch of different locations, all not far away sicne the island is only like 3X5 (miles that is). So renting a bike, moped, or catching the parrot head bus to places is easy. If you can find a few people to go in together, the best thing to do is rent a house or condo - much cheaper and all together nicer. Go onto keywest.com and there is an area for lodging.
Like I said, I'll send you a priavte email shortly but I just saw this and am heading out the door. You should check out and sign up on the MOTM message board. Go to
www.phip.com, then at the bottom where you went to register, there's a spot for the MOTM message board. Check it out. It will get a lot busier once it gets closer. You may even want to wait to book something until closer because there's usually people who have places to share. I'd suggest holding something and you can always change it later.
Sorry if I'm rambling, get you some more stuff soon.

I have been to the last 3 MOTM and yes, it is a busy place to go to!
There is sooo much going on and it is sometimes difficult to work out what to go and see so far as the entertainment goes.
Best thing is to just turn up - then look at the schedules each day and just start walking!!!
I don't think I will be going this year, I will be coming over to the USA a little later I think ......
