Beach house on the moon CD Question

I have the CD Beach house on the moon. I was just wondering why Jimmy Buffett chose to make an album of astrology like that. Personally, I don't think its the best buffett cd I have. But what does anyone think of Beach house on the moon?

I am not sure on theme, other than space travel, is travel. Jimmy has always seemed to be facinated with travel and the "outposts" of the world, especially when it involves flying to get there.
I think the CD is more introspective when you think about it. I think it relates a lot to post mid life crisis.
Its perfect Buffett.....it involves love, fantasy, travel, family..... in a fun, harmless way....all the reasons we love em.

welcome abord HS42
I personaly love the cd. Many others will say it is not one of his best. Yes it is different. If JB played the same sound and style over and over, how boring that would be.

Not one of my favorites. I'm trying to spend more time with it. I'm sure it will grow on me.

Thank you very much for all of your replies!!!!
Now I see maybe it was unique because of stuff in his life going on.
I always wondered why JB Put 'Math Suks' in. But I like it because its different....(and my teachers hate it with a passion

)
Thank you once again for all your replies!!!

I'm with you. It is not one of my favorites either but I just broke it out last weekend to give it another try. Honestly the more I listen to it the more it is growing on me.

While BOTM is not one of his more loved CDs, I still think JB has this little introspective smirk on his face because he writes/records/performs music not as much for us fans, as for himself. I think maybe this CD is even more introspective, and is simply a collection of songs and sounds he enjoyed at that particular time. My bottom line is, if it's JB, it's worth listening to....you hear something different each time.

I also agree that its not one of his best. i love the title track and a couple of others on it, but to me, some of the songs sound like rehashed songs
from his back catalog, and i hate to say it, but i think there isn't enough coral reefer band input on it besides mac macanally. compared to the ones that came before it i.e., 90's work, its well below par. still worth having though.

I love BHOTM. Every track is great and it has some great and interesting themes that run throughout it. Another Buffett masterpiece in my opinion!

Not a favorite with me, but I do plan to listen to it again soon. For whatever reason, it did not click with me, but maybe in time it will. I bought it the first day available, played it over and over, but I was disappointed from the begining, which I hate to admit. I'm encouraged to hear that some of you like it. I'll try again.

I LOVE IT. I may stand out, but I personally think it is a great CD. I love all the songs on it, they have great lyrics, and are great, I think. But thats just my opinion.

I love it too,

, and my Parakeets especially like Math Suks. That song gave one of the Parakeets the strength to make it through the year with the math teacher from HELL. He knows all the words to the song and is now learning to play it on the guitar. There are two songs on there that I really like; I Will Play for Gumbo and Semi-True Story. Listen to the CD again and I bet you will find something personal in at least one song.

I think it's pretty darn good - I like most of the songs except for Math Suks and I Will Play for Gumbo. How can anyone not like Pacing the Cage? It almost always takes me a couple of times through a new Buffett CD before I really warm up to the new stuff.
I agree with Albion about feeling bad for Jimmy sometimes during his concerts - I've noticed at a lot of concerts over the years that when he plays new stuff the crowd goes to the bathroom, gets more drinks, etc. It doesn't seem to bother Jimmy that much - he obviously starts off the 2nd set w/ stuff that people won't mind missing if they're stuck in the bathroom line. But I always try to get pretty familiar with the new stuff so that I can dance and sing along at the concert. Not a problem this year with Meet Me in Margaritaville!

My dad and I were actually listening to it last night while painting the kitchen. I must say that I love this album.

Jimmy really seems to enjoy the song. My theory is that having
pre-adolescent schoolchildren in the household could easily inspire
a lyric like that.
