Key West fishing question

Post by Lone Palm in WV »

I'm spending the month of June down here in Key West, and I'm not satisfied just looking at the water, I want to be out on it. I have this uncontrollable desire to go fishing. Mind you, I've never been fishing in my life. I know nothing about it or how to do it. Can anyone recommend a boat? So far, I'm only seeing private charters and since I'm by myself and attempting to be "financially frugal" (aka CHEAP) that is not an option.

Thanks for any words of advice!

I don't know about Key West, but in Hatteras, you can "sign up" for a group charter...you may have to wait a day or so, but it definitely saves a few bucks! Enjoy!!!!!!!!!!! :D :D :D :D

The charter will probably wind up costing less than a rental.
Especially, once you start buy gear, bait, food, beer etc.
Most charters will include evrything!

Good Luck!

Just remember the fishing is always good, even when the
catching isn't.

My wife and I went out on the "Fish Busters" charter. Mind you it cost $100 per person (average price), but when we saw her 7 foot sailfish jump from the water and it took over 20 minutes for her to bring it to the boat, it was worth it! Caveat: I didn't catch a thing and it still cost me $100.
What you need to do is go down to the Bight and walk around. Better yet, since you are there for a month rent a bike, go down daily and start talking to the charters. After a while, who knows, maybe they might let you stow away for a little less. If not, heck, there are worse things in life than catching sunrise on Key West every day! (you do realize that the boats leave rrrreeeeaaaallll early)
Good luck.
