OK!! Time to start!!!
Who ELSE is already psyched for Great Woods??
I've bought 10 dozen leis and 50 coasters from Margaritaville to hand out.
Been gathering just the right shirts, beads, hats (cheeseburger and parrot, of course), inflatable parrots, etc. for the pilgrimage.
Let's start the process of whipping ourselves into a (feeding??) phrenzy!!!
:D :) :P  :pirate:

I'm SO excited for Great Woods! We're spending the week before on Nantucket, and GW will cap off the vacation. I've bought grass skirts for the two Buffett virgins I'm going with. It's been 6 yrs since I've been to GW (having lived in SF and Chicago in between and going to the shows in those locales).

Looking forward to the vacation and concert has been getting me through this dreary summer in New York.

But first I'll get a little taste of Buffett to tide me over at the Today Show's concert - 4 weeks from today!

Funny this topic should pop up today as we just started planning last night! We're sticking with the same "formula" we used last year of building a bar, and giving away mardi gras beads and hand grenades shots. It was so sucessful last year we just had to do it again.

The only thing we haven't decided yet is if we'll rent a motor home or U-haul for the day (as we've done in the past) or just go in several cars and carve out our own little niche in the regular lot like we did last year. I kind of like the motor home parking lot because it seems just a little bit crazier than the other lots.

We're going to have some crawdads shipped up from new orleans for the main meal so anyone who has a great recipe for them please let me know.

I AM SOOO JEALOUS!!!

I used to do all shows at GW for about 8 years... then moved away. I still made it back for the next two years, but then the tickets were too hard to come by.

I went to Vegas for the first time this April and it was a BLAST!!! BUT, my first and true love is the parking lot at GW. We saw a couple get engaged one year (ring in a coconut) and the next year they got married in the parking lot on top of their luxury coach bus. Had all their family and friend with them. Jimmy sang to them...

Please take lots of photos and post them here for me. Let's just say the Phoenix scene doesn't compare!

Well... here we go!

I've got tickets for both shows again this year. Thursday will be newbie night as I will be bringing one of my high school buddies from the class of 78 to the show. He is well versed in alcohol, but I really don't think he knows what he is heading for at GW!!!! We're both teachers, and given that it's the summer, we'll be there early!

Saturday is the regular crew of 8 with an early entry into the GW parking lot. Like last year, we'll be the crew dragging the Radio Flyer red wagon, decorated of course, and carrying all of our liquid provisions as we move about the great expanse of the GW parking lot, visiting with one and all! Stop us if you see us! We would love to chat with you!

As far as the comparison with other parking lots, I can't make one as I only attend the GW shows.... but, I gotta tell ya', regardless of whether you feel that it's the "best", it is one hell of a good party! People are respectful, yet crazed... and the local cops/rental cops have a mellow attitude!

Let's keep cracking the Coronas all summer... and we'll see you there!!

The Greatwoods concert is my favorite day of the year! The frenzy builds in March as we all plan our strategy to get tickets. Then there is a lull as I follow the tour on Radio Margaritaville during the summer. The preparation for the big day begins around mid-July, so it's a little early yet for me.
The annual pilgrimage to Greatwoods begins early in the morning so we get there by 11:00 AM to set up. There is both a laid-back and carnival atmosphere in one, getting to see old friends and meeting new ones each year. It's the best one-day party you'll ever see........great music, food, drink and fellow parrotheads........doesn't get much better. 8)

Thanks, JIMMY!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm out here on the left coast now and miss the best parking lot in the world at Great Woods! My new home in San Diego and the lot at Irvine will never match Great Woods! A few years ago I saw 8 shows in 10 days...in the days when we had 4 shows at Great Woods and one in Conn., it was easier then, and none matched up to Great Woods.
I miss you New Englanders, hope to see you in Key West on Halloween!
