$200??????? For Buffettt in Vegas??????!!!!!

Post by phinhead »

$200 for Jimmy Buffett in Las Vegas? Is this a benefit concert? I just can't believe that it would cost that much to see Buffett if it was not for a benefit. Tell me it ain't so. :pirate:

Bad news, pal -- it's been that way for the last three years (that I know of). I think that the floor seats were $150 a couple of years ago, and they sold, so it's up to $200 per seat -- what the market will bear (and clearly it will). A year ago May. I seem to remember paying nearly that, and I can assure you that the concert this last April was $200, not just for floor, but for an awful lot of the tickets creeping up the seating chart. We wre lucky enough to get GOOD floor seats (well worth it), but I don't know that we'll do it again this fall, as that's right between GW and Irvine. Please don't think that I'm being in the least insulting, but the fact of the matter is: Vegas tickets go for about twice what the tickets in the rest of the world do.

Yea it's been that way for a while, we paid $100.00 for tickets to the last show, couldn't see the screens, couldn't see the stage, I sprung for floor seats in the past and they were much better.

pretty much always been that way. the ticket brokers typically will get around $700 for a prime floor seat.

I'd feel bad for you, but I have no soul.....

Its not just Jimmy....nearly every concert that comes to Vegas is twice as much as anywhere else. The problem is you have several venues in town that bid on every show now. As a result, prices to book performers have shot through the roof. The venues don't mind though, as they know the public will pay these outrageous prices......most people don't worry about budgets when they are on vacation! And the performers love it.....thats why many artists stop here more than once on their tours! (As Jimmy's dates continue to decline, he's coming back twice and will probably be back in January for the opening of Margaritaville....making it 3 shows here within about 8 months!) If you don't want to pay full price though, go on ebay or show up day of concert......many people buy 6 or 8 tickets planning to attend with a group of people. A couple back out and they end up having to sell tickets at a loss....its not a sure deal but usually its a buyers marketplace day of show....not a sellers marketplace.

don't forget the high number of holdbacks either. the casinos take a bunch of tickets for their closest friends, er biggest losers.

drop $50 grand a year for 5 years at the bellagio and when you get married, the bellagio charters a plane and flys you and 20 of your Wall St. buddies from NY to vegas for your bachelor party weekend, comps you a whole floor suite with food, booze and other "ammenities".... cause they know full well they'll get every penny back at the tables and everyone goes home happy after an awesome weekend that "didn't cost us a dime".... except for the groom-to-be dropped $100 grand that weekend and his buddies added up probably left a similar amount behind....

now suppose they know you're a big time parrothead, and they know everything about their best customers. it's amazing how they just happen to have a room for you and a couple of front row tickets to see jimmy....

a buddy of mine flys a company gulfstream for one of casinos, mainly to ferry the asian clients to vegas and back. well one time one of the clients was actually going to go home 1.5 million in the black. well the casino manager had tried everything to get the guy to stay a little bit longer so he could lose it back without success. so as soon as the guy left for the airport the casino manager quick called the flight ops dept and told them they needed to have the airplane be "broken" for a couple of hours so the guy would come back to the casino while he waited for the airplane to be "fixed". needless to say the guy came back and proceded to lose 5 million.....

I'd feel bad for you, but I have no soul.....

the ticket prices for jb at the mgm, just shows how expensive it can be to be a phan. if you are just begining your addiction, it is a good way to decide if you just want to wait for him to come to a venue near you, year after year, or do you want to join with a few other die hards who travel regualrly from one coast to the other, and points in between to get their (our) fix of jimmy buffet. in vegas since you don't have much choice on what you pay for tickets, you do have a choice on how save on where you stay. there are plenty of motels and and off strip and out of the way hotels with out a casino that are much cheaper the name brand hotels/casinos. since for the most part, you will be in the room of choice for only a few hours for sleeping mostly, then it seems smart to get a room someplace that is both close to where the action is , but cheap also.
the plus side in all of this is thsat you get to meet a lot of other people who
share your addiction and have for a while, and can help you enjoy the
experiance

I was just suprised at the prices. I saw him on the T,T,S tour at the MGM and don't remember ticket prices being anywhere near that price(at the time). Of course it was three years ago and things have gone up since then. I just didn't think they would jump that much. The prices just took me by surprise is all.

Hey Tiki Bar! That's funny! I didn't even notice. I guess one too many beers led to one too many T's. :pirate:

Jimmy has always been expensive in Vegas. I lived out in Vegas from 96-99. The cheap seats back then were $50 and the "good" ones ran you about $150.

Never did manage to see him while I was out there. I wanted my first show to be outside. Not to mention at the time (in college) $50 was alot for crap seats.

My wife and I were already planning a trip to Vegas this fall, and when we found out Jimmy was coming back, that pretty well picked the weekend for us. I was going to try to get tickets tomorrow, but here are my dumb questions for the day: has anyone seen an official on-sale time for the concert? I'm assuming they'll go on sale at 10:00 like the others, which brings me to my second question: is that 10am eastern time or local time?

Guys guys guys, it's Jimmy - any price is worth it! THe Vegas show is always a blast. If you don't want to pay the price, and I certainly don't blame you, wait until you get here. Go to Tommy Rockers the night before, and there could quite possibly be people with extra tix that will sell for face value. Go to the pre-party at the MGM the day of, wait until peope are starting to head over to the concert and you will likely be able to get a last minute gotta get rid of it ticket for half the cost, if not free! Last concert, April, we handed the door guy an extra ticket on the way into the concert. Also, they opened up a bunch of tickets the day of the concert - those were from those nasty ticket brokers that we hate who were not able to get rid of them, or the tickets that the greedy folks of MGM kept to give to high rollers and got stuck with. So, no worries, you can get a ticket at a reasonable price!
If we weren't all crazy we would go insane.
