Hey PirateJeff,
I'm with you - I didn't enjoy all the non-Buffett music either!

The Great Woods veterans know that Great Woods doesn't need any pre show hype, after all it is the Super Bowl all Buffett Shows and the Grand Daddy of parking lots, thats hype enough

There will be 2 of us coming from CHicago and staying in Boston. I know its a far drive, and I find it hard to believe no bar has a bus going to the show. Does this only happen in Chicago? Numerous bars have buses going to Tinley, which is about 30 miles away and buses that go to Alpine Valley, like 90 miles away. We will be taking our chances as we have yet to get tickets and I will not pay the scalpers $160 a lawn ticket.
I know after seeing him in Chicago the weekend before, Mansfield would be a treat, as Chicago absolutely sucks!!!

Here's some "fallback" info. Hopefully someone going North after the concert could drop you off in Boston.
Is there any public transportation between Boston and the Tweeter Center for the Performing Arts?
There is a commuter rail between Boston and Mansfield. Please visit www.mbta.com, for schedule information. There is no public transportation between the Tweeter Center and the Mansfield Rail Station. Taxis are available. The distance is approximately 2 1/2 miles.
See you there!!

The reason no bars do what you're asking is no one wants to sit at a bar when they could be at the Super Bowl of Buffett tailgating. I wouldn't miss it to go to a bar if they had free drinks and transportation!

I agree with NYCPORT that there's no reason to sit in a bar when you have the ultimate bar right at GW. I mean, I know a lot of us like to drink a little "early", but a noontime entry combined with the willingness of the crowd to share their alcoholic concoction makes for quite a day!!! On Thursday, I will be golfing early... alcohol will be part of that , for sure, and then we'll head off to GW, primed and ready to party!!!!

Matt is exactly right, no bar could even come close to the GW parking lot and since the gates open as early as you want there is no need to go anywhere elese. As far as the public transportation, that should be your last option. The The Boston subway sysyem can be quite confusing if your using it for the first time especially if you want to take the commuter all the way to Mansfield. Depending on where you are staying in Boston most likely you need to get on 3 or 4 different trains

Oh, I never expected to sit at a bar and drink and then go to the concert. In Chicago, there are bars that get to the venue around 3:30-4:00, and then tailgate for 3 hrs and then go to the concert. They usually charge around $60.00, but well worth it for food and transportation.
This will be my first time in Boston and I have not even thought one second about public transportation. We can just drive and get there early, and then stop drinking to "sober up" enough to drive home the 30 miles.
Also thought if could meet up with others staying in Boston, we could carpool or take a minvan taxi to/from. Now if I could just find 2 tickets from fellow parrotheads, not the $170 the scalpers want!!!

I'm not in favor, nor support, scalping but if you take the approach that "A parrothead's gotta do what a parrothead's gotta do" you can get tix from e-bay for around $100. That's a little better than $175.
Unfortunately, unless you get incredibly lucky, that's the only thing you can do as GW tickets are like gold.

If you could find me 2 tickets on Ebay for $100/each, I would take them in a heartbeat. They are going for $150-$170. Trust me, I have been checking there on a regular basis. I will just hope someone ends up with extras and are willing to sell them for a "reasonable" amount. I understand selling them for a profit. It is just the business world and I am part of it and have no problem paying over face, just not 3-4 times face value.
I guess as long as the weather is nice, it wouldn't be the worst way to spend a day sitting around tailgating with fellow parrotheads.

I guess you're right. I was thinking about the Thursday show, but even that is going for over $100. I got sort of lucky with mine (depending on your definition of lucky). One of the online ticket brokers had the thursday tickets on sale for $115 for about a week and I bought them then. Last check they are back up to $145. I'd love to know how these brokers get all these damn tickets!

Virgin! Well, a GW Virgin! I didn’t know that!!! We will try to go easy on you Kitty, seeing it will be your first time.
And
chgoparrothead26 :::::As far as the Buses from bars to GW and back. After you go to GW you will understand why they don't exist! And if a local bar ever did offer a Bus service that took you to GW at 3:30 not many people would do it as by 3:30 the parking lot is full and the party is well underway. Trust me (us) on August 30th it will all make sense! In prior years I have viewed ads for several busses that for a fee will drive you to and from GW, they provide all the food and alcohol (but no tix) they leave from all over MA, RI, NH and CT but those busses leave early in the morning and they fill up quick,. Check the margaritaville.com message board and this board as the concert date draws near for more info (others may have more info on this) you can also try contacting local Parrothead cubs . As far as your ticket search goes, good luck but will have to be very lucky to find GW Saturday tix for less than $125 $150 range, I am sure there are some cheap ones out there but finding them will be tough and take it from the people who have been before, don’t wait till the day of the show to try to get tickets as they won’t let you into the parking lot without tickets and if you happen to get in the last thing you want to do is walk around all day looking for tickets or wait in the GW box office line hoping they release tickets, paying a little extra will be well worth nor worrying about it the day of the show, just my opinion .
Love and Luck: the gates open when the first vehical arrives, usually between 9-10AM
