I have some pavilion seats for the Thursday GW show. I had an idea to "scalp" them for as much as I could get and donate the profits to leukemia. Although it is for a good cause, I just can't seem to justify selling tickets to PH's for over the face value. What do you think?

I say... "Absolutely, Positivley, No doubt about it!!! GO FOR IT!!!" There's nothing wrong with doing that. Pretend that you're Long Island University. It's kinda the same thing, only you're doing it for an even better cause!!!

IMHO with tickets so hard to come by parrotheads should sell to parrotheads for face value.

I think it's a good idea, but I'd make sure to tell the buyer what you're doing. If you're not concerned with the tax implications, you could even let the buyer make out two checks: One to you for the ticket price and the extra to the charity so they can take the deduction.

Sell them on eBay, get what you can!

I had full intention of letting the buyer know what I am doing. As I said, even for such a good cause, I feel funny about charging over face...something I have never done!...which is why I was asking for opinions.

Kitty, I once bought tickets where the deal was that the seller said the tickets went to the first person to present him with a receipt for a donation to a particular charity. The tickets themselves were at face. So there's a thought... you could put them up for sale, and require a receipt showing a donation to the Leukemia Society (or whoever). The charity gets the money, and you sell the tickets for face.

In my case, I paid more than $50 over face per ticket, but I didn't feel like I got ripped off, because the seller got face and the rest went to the charity before I even dealt with the seller. It was a win-win-win.

Just sell them for what you can get for them. If you have good seats, heck thats a little more money for ya---with that money--go ahead and buy a few overpriced tshirts and drinks at the show.

I'm an advocate for face value, but your proposal is win-win.

There are people willing to fork out the inflated prices anyway... better to get them from you and help a worthy charity than put $ in the pockets of scalpers and ticket brokers.

You win: you make other parrotheads happy, as well as using your means to collect a nice donation for charity. Should leave a good feeling inside!

The buyer wins: to pay inflated prices usually means they want to see the show at all costs. They get to enjoy the show, and will be happy to know their contribution is going to a good cause. (The 2 checks seems like a good idea if feasible - don't know what payment method works for you.)

The charity wins: thanks to you thinking of them and acting on their behalf.

Go for it, unless you're just not comfortable with it.

maybe you missed my point...the piont is I don't want any profit for me...it is a desire to earn money to donate to Leukemia...

I think it's a great idea, as long as the buyer knows where the donation is going, and then you'll both feel great about helping out the leukemia foundation.

have you considered selling them here first as a charity "event"?

considering the generousity of most of the folks here, someone might want to buy them just to donate the money to charity.

if nobody buys 'em then scalp 'em for charity at the door.

If the charity has any fund raisers scheduled in the near future, you might consider donating the actual tickets to the charity and let them hold a raffle or auction for the tickets. The winner will get the tickets and a tax deduction (above the face value I believe), you will have made a valuable contribution and the charity will hopefully get a big donation and perhaps a little more awareness based on the buzz.

Or, see if a local PH Club might be interested in coordinating the same thing.

Raffle the tickets.

Based on how many you think you could sell you should charge $1-3 per ticket.

This way you do not have to worry about scapling and you will raise more money than if you tried to sell them.

Morale delema resolved.

No worriess, no tax receipts and no propblems.

I think this is the best idea so far. If it doesn't work there is always Ebay.
