Very good point!!!!!!!! :D :D :D :D

Even Parrotheads are different.. Like Pre-you.. That song is great... probably one of the best on "hot Water".. I guess If I had to pick one it would be "sending the old man home"... Also "When Salome Plays The Drum".
Even Pete Rose struck out!!!
I know.. But come on.. people are dissin' the classics????
But one persons classics are anothers peeves...

I dunno...I just don't like it. The story it tells is OK...reminds me of Tully Mars, but I don't like the way it sounds and....

It almost seems, if you wanted to see it this way, that JB's looking down his nose at us. When I say us, I mean those people who are "Tryin' to cram lost years into five or six days".

That's how I have to be as a middle class schlub. I get 1 week a year to relax and let it go. I do have to cram it all into that week. The line just rubs me the wrong way...hence the song rubs me the wrong way.

Please forgive me.
Here's my take on "Cowboy in the Jungle and why you shouldn't feel as if Jimmy Buffett was some how taking a dig at you by writing that line...

Read with me...
  • They're tryin' to drink all the punches
They all may lose their lunches
Tryin' to cram lost years into five or six says
Seems that blind ambition erased their intuition
Plowin' straight ahead come what may.

I don't want to live on that kind of island
No, I don't want to swim in a roped off sea.
Too much for me, too much for me
I've got to be where the wind and the water are free
Isn't one of the main beliefs of being a Parrot Head to quit the 9 to 5 grind, move to the tropics and sell margaritas down by the pier (or sumthin’ like that)?? Simply by keeping that philosophy in mind I think you'll realize what that verse in the song is referring to.

O.K. O.K.! I never thought I would admit this but, there are songs that Jimmy sings that are SO not my favorites. In fact I too, push the old skip button on the CD player. They are,
Autour de Rocher
Elvis Imitators
Baby's Gone Shopping
Barracuda
and Permanent Reminder of a Temporary Feeling.
I LOVE Pre-You and I don't mind the Hokey Pokey song too terribly bad.

I like a lot of the ones you guy's are naming, so I'll bet the same will be true of my list :)

Brand new country star
spending money
saxaphones
mental floss (no, it's not even funny when he tells the story before it)
My Barracuda
Next Explosion
Goodnight Irene
Door Number Three
Desdemona
The Ballad of Skip Wiley (yes, I read the book)

I know the philosophy's there, but I have a job, car payments, a mortgage, a baby, a wife, 2 cats, leaky gutters, a busted garage door.......

I don't get to run to the islands, I have to take that 1 week (which I rarely get because I keep changing jobs and never have vacation time) and cram 5 or 6 years into it.

I'd love to run off to St Somewhere and open a bar and be my own chef. However, I don't get to...so the line irritates me...so I skip the song.

I LOVE this thread. It really is a lot of fun to have these conversations. It just shows how diverse the music is and how diverse we all are.

Peae, love and rum for all those involved! Mojitos on me tomorrow at my house. :pirate:

Elvis imitators
Math Suks
Joggin'
Salome

I can't list any. Problem is, songs I used to not like have grown on me, and old fave's have worn. It depends on my mood, really.

Nobody's gonna agree with me, but the only songs i don't really like are all on Baromter Soup. The only song on the whole cd i like is Mexico which i love. I'm sorry if you love the cd but i never got into it.

Not true! I love that song! I even have a 45 of it autographed by the man who wrote the song (Michael Smith). Michael got quite a kick out of seeing the 45. (He played here at Acoustic Routes back in March.) He also closed his show with Elvis Imitators. Great show! :D

Creola, Biloxi, and Cowboy In the Jungle, can it get any better. Great songs and music. Now Hokey and Math Sucks, are a little of a waste. Just goes to show how varied opinions can be, but Creola, Biloxi, and Cowboy that is going too far.

It looks like no one really likes "Hokey Pokey" or "Math Suks" -- and neither do I. Also, some of the very early stuff i s not up to par, such as "Captain America," "Dallas," and ""Music for Money."
And with later stuff, "The Night I lit Up the Sky" is forgettable. :wench:
