Maybe then it wouldn't be an "official" state tag and we could put it on the
front of our cars (like any novelty plate)? I'm sure our Club members would
order several if that were the case...
Sorry, the Virginia is a part of the actual artwork. The only thing they can do is change the message. Since it's a souvenir you can get as many as you want (at $10 each/$20 each for a personalized message).

FYI, the motorcycle prototype was approved on Monday. They'll order that material and then open it up for sale in several weeks.

VA Plate Logo

Post by skiboutins »

Raleigh,

I love my sample plate for my son....it simply says 'DANIEL'.

I was wondering if you have a high-res jpg or bmp of the parrot logo
on the plate....it looks great and I would like to make a copy of it
for the sides of his Cozy Coupe.

Please let me know if you can email a copy.

Thanks.

Jim

FYI

I heard from the DMV today and as of July 1, 2004 the number of active Parrot Head plates in Virginia is 1646. The number of souvenir plates sold is 137. That is pre-Nissan so those numbers are probably higher now. :D

They will also let me know when they are accepting applications for motorcycle plates. Should be a few more weeks still.

It happened at Nissan. Backstage passes were left at Will Call for us. We went back and relaxed a bit with the munchies and drinks. Turns out one of the security ladies knew my wife, her mother and my mother. We watched as several groups were led back to meet Jimmy. We also watched as the clock kept ticking towards 8:00. Eventually most of the people back there had made their way out and to their seats. At about 7:55 Mike Ramos came, apologized and said that they had gotten backed up with corporate groups and family groups. I told him I wanted to give him the BUBBA plate and have him sign the SAMPLE plate. He said no problem and he'd take care of it.

At that point the security lady told him that my 7-year old daughter (Alyssa) had been waiting patiently and he needed to get her back there. He said he'd see what he could do and he ran back. Charleston came around from a different area and apologized as well. While were were talking to him Mike came back out, gve me the plates (already signed) and said to follow him. We went through the dining area and down a hall and ended up on the side of the stage.

Jimmy was standing in front of us talking about some songs with some other people. We could see the crowd between the side and the curtain. Then Jimmy turned around and introduced himself to me. I introduced myself, J (the designer) and then he turned to Alyssa and asked her name and introduced himself to her.

I gave him the plate and he seemed very excited to see it. He asked if they were out yet and when I told him they were all over the parking lot he looked at me and asked "How in the Hell did you make this happen?"

I told him three years of hard work. Then he got excited and was showing the plate to all the people around there. He then told me he was going to put it on his golf cart. There was some other chit chat and then Mike took the photo of us. We said our goodbyes and headed back out.

We'd just gotten to our seats when the show started. Another highlight was when he dedicated License to Chill to the Virginia Parrot Head Clubs for getting the plates out. You can hear the clip and see the full photo at http://www.parrothead.org/.

It was a pretty good night. :D

Thanks for filling us in. I'm just surprised that JB didn't seem
to be aware of your efforts. Maybe he doesn't visit BN after all...

He was aware

He definitely knew of the effort since he had to personally approve the design. I think he was surprised that they were actually being issued. I also think he was wondering how we could've gotten this approved by the General Assembly and the Governor. He seemed genuinely excited that we did this.

Sorry about the delay in responding. I was waiting for the answer from my contact at DMV. Here's what she had to say:

As of August 31, there are 3,004 Parrothead plates active. The motorcycle plate is available for order through the Customer Service Centers, the bulletin notifying the staff of the CSC has not been posted, and the internet plate purchase has not been posted. Hopefully, these actions will be completed soon.

There you go. Keep checking the DMV website (http://www.dmvnow.com/).

Motorcycle plates are now available

Post by Raleigh »

OK, they're finally ready. The Virginia Parrot Head Motorcycle plates are now available from the DMV website or from any DMV customer service center. You can see it and order it here: http://www.dmvnow.com/exec/vehicle/spla ... idnm=PRTMC. I'd like to thank everyone for their patience in getting these made. The regular plates can be ordered from here: http://www.dmvnow.com/exec/vehicle/spla ... idnm=PRTHD. I do believe I'm done now. Hope everyone enjoys them. I know I never tire of seeing them.

It IS possible, my darling! Use a screw gun and screw the PH plate to the bottom of your regular plate. That's what I've done on my back plate, so that I can have my regular one and my Margaritaville one. Screwing is our phriend, so to speak!

Well, yeah!Image but besides that...
It says that the tag is not to be displayed on a vehicle.
And I'm out-of-Virginia... I'm not sure how Florida would
view my displaying an out-of-state souvenier plate on the
front of my vehicle, even though we don't have front tag
requirements here. :-? :-? :-?

Oh. I didn't know about the part where you can't display it. I was just trying to impart some basic Redneck wisdom.
