I think Raleigh deserves his own Buffett show
as compensation for all his efforts. And guess
what... There's one scheduled for him on 4/27!!!
A shame Jimmy's people couldn't find a venue
a little bit closer...
GREAT JOB, RALEIGH!!!
Wanna come south and get it done again in FL?

Another updates from Raleigh:

March 13, 2004 - The applications are really flying in now. I have 409 now, which is way more than enough. Here's what happens next. I called my contact at the DMV and informed her of our status. She has ordered the sheeting that they use to make the plates. That will take a couple of more weeks. Once it's in then she will call me and we will schedule a time that I can deliver the applications to her. If you haven't applied then you still have time to get it to me. I'd like to have as many as I can in case there are any issues. There shouldn't be but I'd rather be safe than sorry. I don't know when you'll be able to order souvenir plates or the regular plates from a DMV office. I can only guess it'll be after they have issued the original orders.

More info from Raleigh:

March 25, 2004 - I have 439 applications now. I called my contact at the DMV and checked on the status of the metal sheeting. She told me today that it takes 8-weeks to get it delivered. This is longer than the 4-weeks I originally thought it would take. Once it's in then she will call me and we will schedule a time that I can deliver the applications to her. The good news is the turnaround time for the plates will be 3-weeks instead of the 4-8 weeks I had heard awhile ago. I told her that everyone wants them for the concert in July and she said that it will be no problem. If you haven't applied then you still have time to get it to me.

Once they initial applications have been processed you'll be able to order them from any DMV office or the internet. It is at that time that you'll also be able to order souvenir plates. She said she'll let me know when that occurs so I can let everyone know.

I also now know the designator for non-personalized plates. They will be 4 numbers followed by the letters "JB".

According to Raleigh, some of us might get our plates next week! I can't wait!!!

-----------------------------------------------------

May 5, 2004 - Cinco de Mayo! I delivered 486 applications to DMV last Thursday, April 29th. I explained everything that I gave them and was told that I would receive a call if they had any questions. I have received no calls from them at this point so hopefuly everything made sense.

3M should have shipped the sheeting on Friday, April 30th. DMV should receive it sometime this week if they haven't already. Then they can begin processing the applications. If all goes according to schedule, we should begin receiving the plates in the mail next week. The plates will be mailed directly to your homes. The designator for non-personalized plates is 4 numbers followed by the letters "JB".

Once the initial applications have been processed you'll be able to order them from any DMV office or the internet. It is at that time that you'll also be able to order souvenir plates. She said she'll let me know when that occurs so I can let everyone know.

If you haven't applied for these plates yet then please wait until they go onsale at DMV offices and the DMV website. I won't receive your application in time to be included in the first batch. Once they go onsale at regular DMV offices the turnaround time will be the same as any other Virginia plate.

Virginia DMV is now accepting orders

Post by Raleigh »

Posted this in the News thread but figured some of you might not see it there. Please excuse the double post:

Well, that didn't take long.

The Virginia DMV is now accepting orders on their website. I cannot speak for the DMV offices but it'd be worth a try if you're opposed to the internet. The DMV website is http://dmvnow.com. All you out-of-staters can get busy now and join us Virginians.

Those of you who ordered personalized plates will have a slight delay in receiving them. Since they're customized based on your applications they can't be prestamped like the generic plates. I know it's hard when others are getting theirs but there's nothing I can do. My wife's in the same boat and you know I'm talking constantly about it. See, it could be worse.

Hey Raleigh -- Got a question for you. For the personalized plates, were the personalizations reserved when you originally received the applications? Just curious... how do I know if I actually got the personalization that I had put on the form? I honestly don't even remember what I had requested :) AND, if it isn't still available, will the standard numbered plate be issued in it's place?

Thanks!!!!

I have a note into DMV to get the correct answer to your question regarding what happens if all your choices are taken. I'll post here when I get the answer.

The message you requested wasn't reserved unless you specifically reserved it with DMV. You won't know which one you got, if one was available, until you get your plates. It's like Christmas!

Must not be too much of a delay--my wife and I got our personalized plates in the mail yesterday! Too cool. :D

Answers to some Parrot Head Plate questions

Post by Raleigh »

1. If you have a problem with your plates it would be better for you to call Shirley Wells @ 804-367-9711 than the basic customer service. I have heard from people that regular customer service has been really easy to work with.

2. If you requested messages, and they are all taken, you will get a generic plate.

3. Custom plates are being received now. My wife received hers yesterday.

4. Motorcycle plates may become available. I need to submit reduced artwork and they will go through the same development process. I will only need one prepaid application however.

got my plates in the mail today as well, i have a smurf-berry blue car and the plates look wonderful on it. I will take a pic to post the first chance I get. Thanks so much Raleigh for making this happen. :D

For anyone else thinking about ordering them I ordered them last Tuesday evening and got them today so right about a week or so turn around time. Anyone in Roanoke that has gotten theirs already let me know so I can be on the lookout for them in town.
