Got this from a person who says she knows the people in the plate area of DMV: In case you haven't heard and people ask you about the delay, our plate making "shop" in the Powhatan Correctional facility has run out of 'sheet metal' used to make the new Parrot Head plates. It is on order, but they could not give me a date that manufacture would start again, maybe a week or two. Since the plate type has hit the website, requests are rolling in. I can't verify the authenticity since I haven't heard this from my contact there but thought I'd throw it out anyway.

Yeah, I guess if I can't do it, that's what the Powhatan Correction Facility is for.Touch O Parrotdise wrote:someone has to keep us in line phjr
Consider this: if you are a Parrothead who somehow ends up in jail, would you consider it a punishment or an honor to make Parrothead license plates??????

Re: plates
Clintster, here is the link to the page of the Va. DMV's website where you can not only check to what's available, but also see what the personalization would look like:Clintster7 wrote:I sent those in for requests. Unfortunately, it looks like both of yours are already taken. You can probably even order the plates online, but I didn't check that far.

update
Clintster plate update: What I did was call DMV. I reserved LUV&LK with a credit card. SO Ill get the plates I want. The lady told me they dont process July registration requests until JUly first. When I original sent remewal in I did it by mail so as it stands I will be charged twice but the DMV lady told me they would either renew my registration for 2 years or send the registration I mailed in back when they see it has already been processed. Downside: The lady at DMV told me it would take 6-8 weeks on the plates. I know others have said they have gotten theirs much earlier. I am eager to see if they arrive before the nissan show. Thanks again for all of your help.

Moe on the souviner plate you can get whatever you want on it as long as it is within the clean guidelines of ordering the regular platesmoeb03106 wrote:I'm not from VA, but playing around on the DMV site I see that LVNLUK and LUVNLK are both taken, but LV&LUK (or LUV&LK) is available, along with L2CHIL. Pretty cool, might have to order a souviner plate!

look for the parrothead plate and you can personalize it any way you wish. I think you were on the page to actually order the plates thats why your requests kept coming up unavailable. if that dosent work pm me and i can try to help.

Alan11,
Thanks for the note. Eventually I did realize that the
souvenirs could be ordered for just about any combination,
whether it was taken by a 'real' VA driver or not.
"OLPHRT" didn't work though
, although it does show
what the plate would look like!
I went into the actual order site to check on the combos
that another poster inquired about, where the DMV does
let you know whether it's available or not. Plates that are
in use say something like only the owner can renew. Plates
that are restricted will have text that it's not available, but
not that it's in use.
Any other states have Parrothead specific plates available?
Thanks,
Moe

phjrsaunt is absolutely right our state is broke as hell and barely got a budget passed but we have more license plates available than there are beers at some bars.
I just retired my redskin plates to get the parrothead ones the day they were first available. Ever since i got them I get thumbs up from people on the road and a few have blown the horn at me waving saying cool plates, the others have blown the horn for other reasons but I won't get into that
I don't know of any other state either that currently has or is planning to offer parrothead plates in the future. My guess is that the next state to offer them will be florida. I hope you found a sample plate you could use moe

Still no plates
I ordered my souvenir plates back around 5/15, but still no plates have arrived.
Has anyone else out there been waiting longer?
Are they still out of blanks? Hard to believe.
Is there a phone number to confirm the status of the order?
Mine is for my parakeet's Cozy Coupe......and boy is he getting
impatient.....even for a 15 month old

Call Shirley Wells at 804-367-9711 to check on the status of any orders that were placed but not received. I haven't heard if they received anymore materials but I know it took several weeks when they initially ordered it. Hopefully it won't take that long this time.
Also, the artwork for the motorcycle plates was submitted a few weeks ago and I'm waiting for the prototype to be produced. I hope to receive it soon.
