Buffett and the Music Industry

Post by SouthernSeas »

Now since Buffett and Jackson have hit number one, does this mean an award is in the near future.....say, anyone of the big award shows?? What a move for Alan Jackson huh...crossing over into Rock.

I'm not sure Jackson topping the country charts constitutes a crossover to rock.

They might stand a chance for the Billboard Awards or maybe the Country Music Awards, but beyond that...

Technically they still have 8 or 9 weeks to get in for this year's Grammy nominations, but they'd only be eligible for a performance award since neither Buffett nor Jackson contributed to the writing of the song. And honestly, the Grammy's tend to favor more, um, technical performances.

lets see here would you rather spend and evening with a bunch of
mostly boring people dressed up in outfits that will never be worn (and in most cases should never have been ) again, telling each other how good
they are and no one will remember the night three months from now, or........ spend an evening with 15,000 Parrotheads dressed
as only we can (and do) having a non boring time that will be cherished for the longest time. Run that by me again. I'm not sure I can decide which
event is for me.

Here here!

The Pro Football HOF has a devoted fan section, the R&R HOF should follow suit... Parrot Heads, Deadheads, Phish Heads (is that what they're called?) Who am I missing?

And when the song is nominated, I wonder if Jimmy will attend the award show(s)? Grammy, CMA, AMA, Billboard? My guess is yes.

Idea here - Point well taken about "not wanting to dress up and be around a bunch of boring people and wanting to be in front of 15,000 screaming parrotheads instead." How about a concert the night of the Country Music Awards in another city. Then, when the time comes, they cut away to Jimmy LIVE at his own show with Alan coming out to sing "5:00"? Now that would be cool....Jimmy LIVE on National TV!

Unfortunately, this song is looked at as Alan Jackson's song WITH Bubba, not the other way around. It's great that JB is getting some well deserved "face time" on videos and air time on country stations but I don't see this crossing over any barriers towards rock or pop by any means. I wish it did... but it is not.
Hopefully this will lead to him doing some more "cameos" with other artists but realisticly WE all know that he will never be acknowledged for the years of happiness he has brought us PH's !!! The only award he needs is us showing up every night he plays (didn't he say that in an intro to a song on TT&S ...LOL). Awardwise he doesn't want that phony red carpet kinda stuff anyway.
Let's take this song (a GREAT one at that) with a grain of salt and enjoy the ride it may bring in the future.

:D
Question: "And now Kenny Chesney has recorded a beach album." Jimmy's Answer: "It's flattering. Some people say I should be p*** off about it but I'm really not. It's the highest form of flattery, and I'm fine with it."

It's kinda funny... I've noticed that US99 in Chicago hasn't been mentioning Alan Jackson when they play "5 o'clock"... they keep touting their phone call with Jimmy from Friday, and say "here's Jimmy Buffett's 1st #1 song..." I think they're trying to capitalize on his good name - either that, or they're just giving him props...

If the rumor is true that Jimmy is planning a "country" album next. Then this is only kicking open a few doors.
I did notice that the top songs are both videos filmed at a beach or near the water. JB & AJ and Kenny Chesney "No Shoes, No Shirt, No Problems". Shania Twain's "Forever and For Always" is filmed at the beach and it is #7. Country music is moving from the heartland and mountains to the coast!
