Did Mac really write Delaney? It's such a sweet, sentimental tribute to Jimmy's daughter. But the fact that Jimmy might not have written it somehow makes it less touching in my mind. Unless, I guess, Jimmy wrote the lyrics and Mac wrote the music, which would be good. (I'd check the CD, but don't have it here at work).

I love Nadirah. I miss the sound that Fingers brought. I am looking forward to a country album but I hope its not too country. I don't think Jimmy will sell out on us.

Not on the "core" fans he isn't.

another one for Nadirah... :)
Secondly, the fact that a song Jimmy sang on went to number one doesn't meen anything to me either.I just wish it would have been his own song!
Yeah me too.... :-?
What i really don't like is the idea of him following it up by releasing a full fledged country album instead of returning to his carribean flavored one of a kind style.
I think it will be interesting since his "roots" started in Nashville and ALL of his earlier stuff have a country & western vibe to them. I'm lookin' forward to it..... But this is comin' from a guy that like Don't Stop the Carnival..... ;)
This "country album" will probably have a lot of cover songs on it and songs written by Mac Macanally on it. I'm sorry but i want input from the entire band! Just listen to Fruitcakes, Barometer Soup and Banana Wind and see what Jimmy and the band can really do when they write together. Those albums are magical, and after the last two albums have been laced with Mac Macanally input (Beach House) and covers(Far Side) I'd like a return to mid 90's form! I'm not saying those albums are bad. But, they are missing the bands ingredients.I like Mac, but i like the collaboration that existed within the band between '89-'96 the best.
I think Mac's inputs have been great over the whole time frame of there collaboration. I wonder who wrote Changing Channels????

Tonight I Just Need My Guitar

As Forest Gump said "That's all I have to say about that"

Once again don't misunderstand what i'm saying. Since Mac has become a full time member of the band there has been a significant drop in coral reefer collaboration on each corresponding album. In addition, there has also been a steady decrease in the number of "island sounding songs" while the number of cover songs on each album has gone up as well. I love the songs they do together and yes Changing Channels was written by both Mac and Jimmy 15 years ago. But if you listen to the songs they have done recently, i don't hear many fans complaining that they want to hear Semi True Story or Hokey Pokey! The musical direction ways to much on Mac and not enough on the rest of the band! There all very talented. There just not all used as much nowadays for there writing skills. When was the last time Utley had a writing credit on an album?

It' the luck of the draw. You never knwo who you are going to sit beside.
I got kicked out of a show in Nashville becase some old man 10 rows back was complaining about my dancing. I wouldn't stop so I got the boot. But I did get back in three times.

I just want to say that I really sympathize with those of you who have been frustrated at concerts. Two years ago, in Cincinatti, I swore I would never go back. We were on the lawn and it was a total mess, we were surrounded by drunk young people (and I'm not THAT old [26!]) who knew Margaritaville and WDWGDAS and that was quite literally all they knew about JB. That is one reason I think he should not sing those songs at his concerts -- I would personally not miss them at all, and would love to hear some of his other songs live. Anyway, we sat it out one year, but are coming back to JB in Chicago this year, just couldn't stay away. So here's hoping for a better experience this year!
PS -- Don't get me wrong, I like to have a good time, but the reason I'm there is to see Jimmy and I like to remember at least part of the night the next day! :D
And I like Nadirah! But I also like Tina, and she seems to get overlooked a lot.

MSU #1-- I am an "older woman" who knows all the words too! Sit by me for the next show so we can irritate everyone!

FYI-- I felt the same way at the Detroit show, singing away with every song and got some weird looks--had a great time anyway!

The only thing I can say about the !# song is all the tickets are scooped up
for this round of shows. Most of the people that care about that sort of thing will be off on the new flavor of the week by the time Jimmy fires
up the road trip bus. I mean unless we get lucky on New Years
there won't be any shows until next spring. ( in the states) if and I mean if
the rumored tour Down Under and parts unknown gets off that will
take up most of January and Febuary, Soooo that leaves next Spring
and by than unless this song stays 1# (lets get real about that) until
then my guess, bet, HOPE,prayer, etc is that that crowd will not be around
for those shows. as for the kids drinking, etc. I used to see the DEAD
in the Bay area and the same thing was happining there, No ideas on how
to fix the issues but if I come up with something I'll post it. :pirate: :pirate:

For the record, when I started this thread I meant it to have very little to do with my thoughts on Nadirah but wanted comments about the #1 and what it might do to ticket sales. Specifically how it migh bring in more people that had no clue about Buffett but would actually make it harder for real parrotheads to get tickets.

But a lot of people only stopped at my comment on Nadirah. Which I only used to illistrustrate why I posed the thought on the ticket sales.

But it does seem that by a vast majority, on here anyway, that more like her sound than not.

1) Nadirah has an amazing voice and adds a lot to the Coral Reefers. The Reefers without her woouldn't be the same. I also take insult on her behalf at the suggetion the she is like Mariah Carey. At least Nadirah didn't make a movie like Glitter! :)

2) You think Its Five O'Clock Somewhere is going to make it harder to get Buffett tickets??? Have you tried getting them in the past couple of years? It is next to impossible already. I don't think the success of this collaboration is going to give a noticeable change to our Parrothead experiences. Jimmy was already extremely popular. Every year is among the top 5 or so grossing acts.

3) Gotta Love Mac and the entire Coral Reefer Band! Mac is a songwriting genius. Can't wait to see him at the House of Blues August 29th!

4) I like that Jimmy is constantly evolving and not always making the exact same music. And you know what.... I like it all. Everything from God's Own Drunk to Margaritaville to Far Side of the World. It is all Different and it is all Great!

So let's hear it for Nadirah, Mac, the rest of the Band and of Course Bubba!
We all wouldn't be here if we didn't love his work!

To paraphrase from above and from Forrest Gump.... And Thats all I got to say about that.
