It's about time!!! Now e-bay should start cracking down on the scalpers who think they can get $1500 for a pair of tickets to Jimmy's Vegas show

Only problem is in most cases the scalpers aren't doing anything illegal

I suspect as long as people are willing to pay that much, the problem with exist.

As 7lords said, most scalpers are perfectly legit. It depends upon the state, but most states will liscense "ticket agencies" that are pretty much scalpers with an office. The state just wants the tax on the sale, thats all. Some states do have laws that don't allow resale of any type for more than face value, but others let the "ticket agencies" sell them for whatever they can get, as long as the state gets some money back. So go complain to your state legislature.

As for tickets prices and everything, PA is really screwed up. If there is a concert in PA and you are a PA resident, you can only (legally) pay double the face value. But, if you are not a PA resident, you can buy tickets for ny price. How much sense does that make? Was going to have my friend from NJ bid on tickets to Pittsburgh for me, but luckily someone from the board had extra tickets, and didn't have to deal with eBay.

As for the scalpers, as long as they are operating legally, this is America, land of free enterprise.

so wait, if I was from PA, and was going to a PA show, and was bidding on tix on ebay, I could only pay double? Or he could only charge me double? I don't get how this loophole works with internet sales.

Yeah, it is confusing. If you were from PA going to a PA show, the most you could (legally) pay for the tix is double face value, but the same person selling these tickets could charge someone from outside PA over double the face value. So, basically, anyone from PA who wants to bid on eBay tix is (in the case of Buffett tix most likely) going to get outbidded by an out-of-state person...

I don't know what the big deal is of selling JB live cds on ebay. Most of the cds are under $20 and are a great souvenir of a show we have been to or wished we were at. The world is a free market, if you want to buy it, buy it if not don't. Normal cd's at Tower Records are about 15.99 & up. I have bought many live cds from ebay and they are from Parrotheads who just want to give people the opportunity to have live shows. I am not computer savy enough to burn my own cds from Radio Margaritaville, so I just purchase them. I don't know why any one would care if live cds are sold on ebay, unless you're one of Jimmy's lawyers.

Cost of two CD's = not even $1.00
Coast of mailing 2 CD's in the USA = $1.50
Cost of Total Recorder = $12.00

So, that's $14.50 for the first time around to cover the cost of Total Recorder. After that each CD costs $2.50 for materials and mailing. These people are charging $20.00? That's a profit of $17.50 for putting a CD in the burner and hitting record. Seems a bit much for little effort. I recorded the Pittsburgh show and had no problem posting it in mp3 format on one of my websites for those that wanted it. A few people didn't have burners, so I burned them CD's and didn't even ask for anything in return. One guy I traded with. Long and short is there is a pretty big profit margin there, and seems to me these people are making money (beyond materials and fair time reimbursement) on selling CD's on eBay. Just my $0.02

Well said Zanth. People selling CD's to make profits from fellow phans is the kind of thing that may cause someone like Jimmy to stop putting his shows out there for our enjoyment. People selling the shows that are available for free are not true Porrotheads. These people are like the scalpers we all dislike and should not be supported
