Newbie Questions/Advice?

Post by travlgrrl »

Hi everybody! I'm a "semi" NEWBIE (have loved Jimmy's music for years, however I am finally lucky enough to attend my FIRST JB concerts this summer) I guess you can say my friend and I are Buffett Concert "Virgins" --- - the two concerts at Greatwoods (Tweeter Center) in Mansfield, MA will be our FIRST tailgating experience and saying I am excited is an understatement!! I have a few questions.......What time are most of you planning on arriving? Is there a certain area we should try to park in? How can you best summarize the tailgating "experience"? I was thinking of bringing my guitar---but I am not sure.....any suggestions? Any MUST DO's? I heard you don't want to get caught being a "virgin"----hmmm.....what happens if your secret is revealed? LOL!! Also, I have some family members who do not have Buffett tix (yet) however they would like to come to the tailgate party---is this possible? Can they meet us there or do they need a ticket to enter the parking lot? Do a lot of you tailgate AFTER the concert as well? Unfortunately without doing research I purchased the "priority parking" passes for Thursday & Saturday (Ugh.....I thought it would put me near all the fun) and JUST found out it would put me near the limos/RV's for a quick exit----Nooooo thank you! :o I want to HAVE FUN and be with other parrotheads!!!! :wench: Also, there is a chance it may be just my friend and I ----we are kinda shy---any tips on how to go out there and "mingle" with the others??? :P I know most of you go in "groups"......Any help/advice would be wonderful!!!! Thanks so much---I love this web site!!!!!

Whoa... That's a whole lot of questions.. I'll do my best...
1. Arrive very early. I'll be lingering near the gates to the parking lot by around 9:30 am. From what i've heard (BNers correct me if I'm wrong) as soon as traffic starts to back up on the road they open the gates and the tailgating can begin as early as 10 - 10:30 am.
2. If you are in the early crowd and you don't go to the Stuck Up Snob lot you will have fun and be in the center of the Alternate Universe known as a Buffett Tailgate.
3. Summarizing the experience can only be done by being there first hand so I'm not even going to try. Must do's? Same thing I think.
4. You can, and should, bring your guitar.
5. You do want to be caught being a Buffett Virgin. If your secret is revealed, your penalty will probably be twice as many free drinks from people to ensure that you are properly buzzed.
6. Your family does not need tickets to enter the parking lot. If they want to go to the show they will probably be able to get tickets during the tailgate from someone. They are usually prevelent.
7. How to mingle with others.. Hmmm.. Try collecting beads.. Beads can be obtained by.... uh... well... you'll figure that out too! LOL!!!

WELCOME TO BUFFETTNEWS!!! And look for the Blue Durango with the 4 foot fin on the top for a free breakfast margarita on Thursday morning!

I'll answer this one........it's the easiest place in the world to make new friends, just walk up to folks and say "HI", and 99.999999% of the time, you'll meet somebody great. I've gone to shows alone before, and trust me, it's easy to meet people.

Some friends of mine bring a guitar, one plays, the other sings, and they walk the lots singing Buffett songs, another great way to meet people.

Make sure to stop by and serenade us with a Buffett tune!

I always give virgins a Scavenger Hunt list. That way they have no problem going around and meeting people. If you want my list I will email it to ya.

This is what I do at concerts. I have lots of list to hand out.

Aaaah, a fellow Rhode Islander......

I think your questions were answered well by the others, but here's a tip. Bring stuff to barter or give away. this is a GREAT way to meet people. It can be an extra bottle of tequila to give away shots (preferably in a squirt gun so you can just shoot it into peoples mouths) or jello shots (Pina Colada is my favorite), carribean themed stickers or tattoo's, packs of Juicy Fruit, Junior Mints, you get the idea. If you have Juicy Fruit you can just walk around and trade people for beer, burgers, shrimp pretty much anything. It's really a lot of fun.

It's also a good idea to bring a change of clothes in case some you get caught in a super soaker crossfire. Don't bother bringing Frisbees or footballs or things like that. First you won't WANT to use them--there's too much going on, and 2nd, the cops crack down really quickly on that.

This year we're giving away Beads and Hand Grenade shots, so if you see us, make sure you introduce yourself

Hi there, well thats a lot of questions, but Last yr I had the a lot of the same...Basically Ill start by saying you are in for one of the best days of your life. You will meet some of the nicest people you have ever met and you'll have a ball! you probably should arrive between 10 and noon, I was actually thinking of my guitar too, but the jurys still out, although there are lots there, you usually need tickets to get into the lot, although I have heard otherwise, you do tailgate a little after cause Its a while getting out, bring pants, well the RV section is pretty cool, bring lots of food, you may want to share, last yr we got to know all the neighbours around us and we all looked out for each others stuff when we went "touring", people are usually friendly, I didnt meet any that wernt, people love to share things, food and beverage, thats why bring lots to share!!, Teq, beer, rum cheeseburgers, shrimp, dips, chips, fruit, water, handy wipes, decorations, be colorful, dont be scared to say Hi to anyone, take pics, greatwoods is the Mother of all tailgates, basically I think its a first come first served parking too, they did that last yr, we were in the back but met a lot of good people, there was a band around too, lots of jello shooters, oh and one bit of advice PACE YOURSELF, its approx 8 - 10 hrs of "good time" so be careful, dont miss the show!!!(cause the serve inside too)!!!

If you see a Canadian Flag say Hi it may be me!!!

OMG!! You mean there are at least FOUR of us from RI on this board??? :o :o

KEWL!! FinsUP328 has the NW corner covered, I've got the SE, and sounds like you two are in between, somewhere. :D

Couple of things... As you head off the main road and on to the access road for the lots, be in the RIGHT lane on the access road.... that leads to the lots by the RVs and busses. (course, you got those special passes, anyhow....)

You do need tickets or SOMETHING to wave at the parking lot attendants when you enter, or they won't let you in. I waved my ticketmaster receipt and told them my tickets were at will call (true, but they still didn't look too closely).

Beads.... uh-huh.... collecting beads is a GREAT way to meet people..... 8)

Just a thought.... Anybody ever try bribing their way into the parking lot? Slip the attendant $20 instead of showing tickets?
Indecision may or may not be my problem....

I'd be pretty confident it could have the desired effect... 8)

yea, I agree. Fortunately I have my tickets, but it's a REALLY good option for someone who doesn't but wants to get in. $20 is short money for an afternoon in the parking lot.
