Lead Guitar Player or Homeless Man?

In a rare occurance, I had great seats this year. You can see alot more from the 2nd row, than the Triple Z or the Lawn. Did anyone else see Peter Mayer? He looked like a poorly dress homeless person. He also seemed way out of it. It seemed everytime he changed guitars, he had to ask the roadie what song they were on. I never really noticed all of the "goings ons" but this year I was SOBER (don't try to figure it out, I couldn't) so I noticed a lot more. Does Peter Mayer always have stringy hair and that desheveled look?

peter has always had the long hair, don't know about stringy.
was he wearing a sleveless shirt? jiimy seems to have the reefers wearing uniforms now, and peter likes his shirts sleveless, probably to show off his muscles. and yes, you can see a lot more closer to the stage than from the distance of the lawn.

Saw Peter Mayer in July

We saw PM in July in Virginia. He sounded great. He was with Mac McAnally. I like Mac but my brother preferred PM. Didn't seem overly concerned about his appearance but sounded good.

Roadies are the people who load the gear in and out.

Peter usually jokes with his GUITAR TECH every time they swap our guitars. He's certainly not asking what song they're on.

As far as disheveled... Jimmy provides the clothes. But I know the heat in Chicago was beating the band up. It takes enough energy to put on a show in front of 30,000 under regular circumstances - oppressive heat and humidity makes it a monumental task.

Hey PD,

I here ya on the homeless thing that's going on with Peter Mayer. Over the last 2-3 years I have had some really great seats and I've definitely noticed that he generally looks like he's 3 sheets to the wind during most shows and his hair kind of reminds me of the scarecrow in the Wizard of Oz!!!

Don't get me wrong... I love his music... Maybe he has a drug problem or sumthin'. Think about it... That would explain the wardrobe, the hair and the lost look on his face. :P :P :P

I love Peter Mayer...I have been to many of his shows as The Peter Mayer Groupsince '98 and have gotten to know him personally! He does not have a drug problem and actually does many benefit performances to help others...a VERY generous soul...his playing ability is awesome and I would think the heat got to him and that was probably SWEAT making his hair messy!!! He really gets into the music during his performances...this could contribute to the "3 sheets into the wind appearance " that has been commented upon. He does have a great sense of humar so I think it probably joking going on when he gets his guitars from the tech.

FM, I believe you, but I still say Peter looks and acts
like he's messed up when he's on stage with Jimmy.
Even at indoor venues, he looks messy and ragged out.
When I saw him in Birmingham, I got the same
impression PD did.

I think he's an outstanding artist and composer (I play
his RG CD to get to sleep at night) and am sure he's a
great guy... but he looks scarey. (And his brother
looks nothing like him.) Maybe he's not that comfortable
performing in front of huge crowds? I know serious music
types who live for the music, not for the show like Bubba
does, and don't have much in the way of people-skills.
Could that be it?

Don't get me wrong folks, I do love his contribution to Jimmy's music. I don't know much of his solo efforts. Being this close this year gave me a new perspective and I am really glad I was sober, so I could see things I never have gotten to see before.

In PM's pictures on the web, he seems like a fairly good looking guy and I know he is a hell of a musician.

This may have been a look he was going for, it may have been the heat, but as Des referred to, he looked wasted, desheveled and out of it. I loved the show regardless, but was just curious if this was his current style. Thanks for all the responses.

Guess we've run out of things to talk about if we're down to analyzing the hygiene of the members of the band or speculating wildly about their state of mind...

Portions of this thread (and others lately) are downright mean-spirited.

For those who feel the need to critique PM's appearance, why not post pictures of yourself here so we can critique your appearance as well and wonder aloud if you're on drugs, drunk, or just a slob?

Otherwise, if you don't have a reliable source or article you can quote giving you insight into an individual's life, howsabout refraining from making the post in the first place.

Yeah...when did the threads start to become mean-spirited? We used to be so happy and fun-loving around here. I agree with Lee. What's up with that?

Lol!!! Lee, lighten up. When you decide to step into the "lime" light and become a performer you can expect criticism! But if you read the thread a little better, you'll find that this was a question on his appearance, not a jab. He looked awful, could've been the heat, could've been anything. All I asked is if this is his regular appearance.

As far as my picture or appearance, it has no relevance on Jimmy's show. I didn't get to get up on stage. I did however have 2nd row seats, so PM's appearance was very evident to me and I commented on it.

Oh, and my reliable source is my relatively good VISION. It's what I saw, not something I read somewhere. Your post is more of an attack on me and other posters, than our comments were on PM.

Yeah, I'm sure "poorly dressed homeless person" was meant in a nice way.

I understand the question and would just say don't judge a book by its cover. I saw Peter recently in a very small outdoor venue and had the oportunity to speak with him both during and after the show. I assure you that he's coherent and intelligent as well as quite personable and engaging. I can see that the view from a distance says disheveled, but up close I'd be more inclined to say disheveled by design. He's by no means unkempt. The only thing that I could see being mistaken as drug enduced is some of the facial expressions that I take as pure artistic passion when he plays. He puts a level of effort and heart into his performance that in 25 years of concert going I've only previously seen in James Taylor. I've got some pretty close up pics before, during and after the show. PM me if you want to see acouple for more info to base your decision on.

Hi, Lee. This is your friend Des, remember? :)

PD is fairly 'new' here. Let's not jump on him
with both feet yet, OK? I didn't see anything mean
in his post myself, and I love PM. I've noticed his
appearance on stage can be quite odd, but that
doesn't mean my previous observations were
mean spirited. Just observations out of curiousity
bordering on concern. No one else in JB's band
seems to be that disheveled, thus the interest.

Peace? :-?

I expressed my observations and asked a simple question, that is all. I think the mean spiritedness are some of the people trying to protect PM. I don't think he needs your protection. We all know of his skills as a musician. But it was obvious to me from 15-20 feet away he was a physical mess for whatever reason. Again, my observations.

Des, thanks for the back up. I never thought posting my views would cause such a ruckus. New here or not, I wouldn't attack another poster because of their opinion.

I've got to give MY opinion again and want to point out that JB has this year put the band into "costumes"...the apparel PM wears in the Tiki Time Tour are not his choice...try playing in a hot outdoor venue and I'm sure your appearance might appear "disheveled".

Peter is probably the most musically talented of the group.
He's also VERY religious, not at all the drugged-out type!!
I applaud his "independent" look and attitude.
Hey, maybe we should just get the CR's all uniforms, like an old British or Motown group!!!!!
