No Smoking or Smoking?
Hello everyone!! I am a smoker which I know is a bad habit but I just cannot quit right now. At Thursdays show in Chicago(outside venue), I had some guy behind me threating to kick my A** if I didn't quit smoking. He even went as far as pushing me during Knees of my heart. I tried to explain to him that this is a Buffett concert and we are just here to have a good time and relax! I eventually had to go get security who pulled him aside and had "a talk" with him. Almost ruined my night. I was wondering on what y'all feel about this issue and who was wrong or right? If anyone was.....

Well as a former addict and now "only when I drink smoker" I always wrestled with this too. I would always try to be courteous and watch where my smoke was going, but at a Buffett show is not the time you want to have to have that achy feeling in your stomach cause you're craving a smoke.
Seems to me he could have asked you to turn a certain way or take a couple steps over or something because the only way that your smoke could have been bothering him outside was if he was in the direct line of the smoke stream. Upon moving out of the stream, I don't really see how it could have been that big an issue for him.
If he was having such a bad time at the concert to be bothered by the faint scent of your cigarette then he shouldn't have been there anyway... Sorry that happened dude..

I'm not a smoker and like every other non-smoker I don't particularly like smoke in my face, I could care less about it at a Buffett concert. A Buffett concert is where you can let loose and relax, if smoking helps you do that that's fine by me, as long as you don't turn directly toward me and blow it in my face

Agree. Unless this is the first concert this guy has ever been to, he should have known that people smoke at outdoor concerts. And as mentioned before, there are a million other more civil ways to ask someone if they would mind moving away a bit. Guy was probably a jerk, plain and simple...

A guy in front of me in the pavilaion on Thursday was smoking, and it didn't bother me a bit. He shared it with me, so now a certain line in Volcano has new meaning to me, and brings a Big Smile
to my face!

Sums it up for me. I don't smoke, but I used to bartend (back when you could smoke in NYS bars)... so when I'm outside at a show... I enjoy the show...Air M'Ville Cap'n wrote:I'm not a smoker and like every other non-smoker I don't particularly like smoke in my face, I could care less about it at a Buffett concert. I'm one that can't stand to be around smokers. But if you're going to a concert you're signing yourself up to be around someone who is smoking. If he has that much of a problem with your smoking - annoying has it may have been for him - he should have logged onto margaritaville.com and listen to the concert in the smoke free environment of his house.

Man, I was at the concert on Thursday and some guy in front of me wouldn't quit smoking so I kept bugging him. He even went as far as going to get security who pulled me aside and had "a talk" with me. Almost ruined my night. I was wondering on what y'all feel about this issue and who was wrong or right?
Just kidding - if there are not rules against it, smoking is perfectly acceptable at any outdoor venue and you should expect that others will be smoking. You might not like it but it happens.

i agree. as a non-smoker i cannot stand the smell, but if you're somewhere that allows smoking, the non-smokers need to let it be. smokers have rights and if they abide by the rules of when and where, that's all we can ask.LMC wrote:I'm one that can't stand to be around smokers. now if you want to talk about the smokers who light up at inappropriate times.... that's a different story.

I'm not a smoker and never have smoked----because I am an asthmatic.
Even having someone outside smoking around me makes me wheeze. And no matter how they move out of my way or me out of theirs, the smoke still comes my way.....then I begin to wheeze and then I have to use my inhaler.
I know smoking is no big deal to you.....and I certainly don't want to ruin your concert experience, but if I am around a smoker, it will ruin my concert experience.
And I don't want to stay in front of my computer and listen to RM---I like to get out with my friends----but not with those that smoke.
Sorry to be so preachy, but some of us have problems and can't help it. He might have been one of those people, too.

I'm sure a simple explanation would have gone a long ways....further than a jackass attitude and a shove.
I'm a non-smoker, but like everyone else.....I just adjust if I'm in an area where it's allowed.

Generally, smoking is not allowed in the seating areas of the venues here in California even if the venue is outdoors...but security really doesn't enforce it (how can they...). Since it is not allowed, people shouldn't do it.
I don't mind if someone lights up every once in a while and it doesn't get directly in my face...but I always seem to get the person next to me smoking constantly and dancing around, not caring that I may get burned...that's no fun...Isn't before the show, intermission, and afterwards, enough time to take in a smoke and often enough?....but... if the venue does allow it in the seating areas...then who am I to complain...
