maybe I"m setting some sort of weird double standard?

TAU KAPPA EPSILON!
Anyways, I agree with 12 lb. I heard rap at Chicago as well and I wanted to go in their car and turn it off. People just go to drink and don't know a word to Buffett songs. It's pretty sad, but hey, nothing we can do about it.

Hey southernseas, name us FIVE buffett songs not on the SYNBH album right now........that is your way to redemption.....
otherwise, let the true parrotheads enjoy the show and the same fun you mention without the CRAP that disrespectful wannabe's have during the show.. There is a fine line between the crazy and the insane and it usually comes between those who party hard and respect EVERYONE at the shows, giving away food, drinks, etc. to anyone; and then there are those who think everything should be handed to them....by the way, the stage is that way!
What is that suppose to mean? I was in a fraternity back in college (now more then 7 years ago). and I own every Buffett album...
This thread is pathetic, why do we assume that only "frat" boys ruin the Buffett experience? Yes, I have had problems with young fans (mostly of High School age) playing rap, but I have also had prblems with drunk older fans! Whenever you mix alcohol with 20,000 people, you are sure to run into one or two A**wholes.
As far as breasts are concerned; It seems to me that there are more middle-aged men binging set-ups that ask girls to show their t*ts, and there also seem to be a larger amount of middle-aged men (and women) who line up to catch a glipse.
I see no problem with people having a little fun and doing something that it a little out of the ordinary from their daily lives. I don't care if people drink too much (as long as they don't drive), I don't care if men ask to see a girls t*ts (as long as they are respectful) and I certainly don't care if a girls shows here breast!
Relax and enjoy the experience.

As of late Irvine P.D. is taking care of the riff that has recently shown up stalking the parking lot. Although we have not yet experienced any problems it seems that the presence of P.D. keeps potential trouble makers at bay.
Now there was the time my wife accused the poor guy behind her in the beer line of swiping her money.....

I understand the frustration being expressed by some folks on this thread. When I was in college I felt much the same way as the person who started this thread. It was my fellow 20-21 yr olds who were ruining it for the rest of us "true fans." I've come to realize though that it is not just the young folks. I've had many concert experiences tainted by some obnoxious 40 somethings who only know the words to "M-vill & Cheeseburger" as you aptly put it. After following Jimmy for about 10 years now and seeing 50 some shows, I've come to realize that these shows bring out the best in some people and the worst in others and you just have to take it with a grain of salt that no matter whether it's Cincy, Florida, NY, or California, there will be some obnoxious people that are there to get plastered and party and couldn't care less about anything else. I've gotten immune to it. Yes, it bugs me but at the same time I know I'm there to see and here Jimmy and hopefully have some fun in the process. I also realize that some of these people make up a chunk of the ticket buying publice and who knows, without them buying up a % of tickets, would JB still think it's worth his time to tour. I don't know how much there is to that but it's something that I think about anyway. Well, don't let the bad apples , no matter how old they are, ruin it for you. Thank God for Jimmy Buffett!

yeah, but you have to start somewhere. I'm a youngin', and my parents do not listen to buffett. I found the music by myself. So everyone has to start somewhere. And the best place to start (like it or not parrotheads) is with SYKBH.
I don't have a problem with people not knowing the words, it's the people who don't care to learn the words, and are there in search of a new place to make an A** of themselves.

I agree with you totally. I started with SYKBH just like most people here probably did (except the ones that were fans before it came out). We've all started somewhere and you're right, the ones that don't care to learn the words are the ones that bother me too.

I'm part of that "in between" college and full-blown adulthood (with husband and kids and all) and I sympathize for 12 lb. because he is a great guy, came to have fun, but didn't need to get trashed and act like a neanderthal to do it... I know all young guys, and old guys for that matter, like to see boobs, but save it for Mardi Gras...I think it's disrespectful and pathetic for a guy to be yelling "show your t*ts" at every cute girl that walks by, especially in return for something like alcohol...
And I know and knew plenty of frat guys that didn't act this way, so it's not completely a "frat guy thing"...but there definitely is a distinction between the cool college age guys like 12 lb. and other college age moron males that I see at tailgates anymore...and many of the girls are pretty pathetic too, for degrading themselves to show their t*ts to every guy that asks!

I hold no fault on age for there are as many dopes in adolescents that equally reign supreme in middle age. My biggest and really only complaint is the measure of respect not afforded to those who go to enjoy the show, rather they are given to immature and disorderly conduct making the experienc for everyone just a bit less enjoyable. But then again...aint life just like that?

I couldn't agree more with just about everything that has been said above. I wonder if Bubba knows just how bad it is out there. Maybe if he knew just how many people went for the party (I say its well over 60%) rather than the music, he'd do mail order. After all its many of those drunken jerks who prevent some of us from getting tickets year in and year out.

Now this is a thread to address....how phun!
OK, at 44, I have been to 100+ Jimmy shows since 1987 (yes, I have no life), am a pretty successful businessman, and yes, a member of Pi Kappa Alpha...Arizona State University Class of 1980.
I agree with everyone, and no one.
I love the younger crowd, and even love the fact the music in the lots is sometimes something other than Jimmy. At last week's Chicago show, some guys wer blasting some other music, and actually were a pretty smart and rowdy 20 year old bunch. Great guys...did not make phun of this ol fellar (at least in front of me).
I can attest to the fact middle age guys are obnoxious...I drink my Captn Morgan until the show starts, and then try to sober up. When I do not have a date for my 7 - 10 shows per year, I am looking for one, especially blonds with nice figures....and have found me a few.
For those people who walked by the rented Suburban with the tailgate open at the Ft Lauderdale show two years ago...I apologize for the "show" you saw...It wasn't me, and I have no idea who the blond was.
Let's not forget the words to many of Jimmy's songs...they relate to being nuts in the often sad world we live in...especailly at a show where 18 year old and 40 year olds can mingle and have much in common!
I look forward to seeing many of you next week at both Boston shows in a rented SUV, just enjoyed the Chicago show...and look for my lil white convertible (California plates PIRET40) with a large bottle of Captn Morgan perched on the trunk at San Diego and Irvine shows!
What would Jimmy Buffett do?

SD...
I agree with your opinion wholeheartedly... I look forward to the entire "JB Experience"... Most of it is good.... some of it is goofy... and some of it is bad.... I've seen adolescent behaviors exhibited by people between the ages of 6 and 90... including times that I have gone overbaord with alcohol, etc... However, I try not to judge lest I be judged... So, on with the party, two shows at GW coming up... Wahoo!!!!

Gotta agree with SD. What makes a Buffett concert different from the rest is the tailgaiting which is fueled by the booze, other substances and the subject matter of the music (lets get drunk and screw) It is a racous party in every city. A Buffett party/concert is a throwback to the glory days of rock concerts...the Dead, zeppelin, stones etc. See y'all at shoreline!

i am 26 and i agree. the younger ones in the crowd seem to be looking to get laid, stoned, etc.. it is really emabrassing to see that. also, a lot of them are rude and not what i would call a parrotthead.

I have certainly witnessed the type of thing you're talking about on a more frequent basis, 12#. I honestly don't think I'm just getting more sensitive to it b/c I am getting "older" either. It truly distresses me that these kids don't have enough control over themselves to know where to draw the line, or even to remember that they're there to see Buffett. Seeing a few boobs is just icing on the cake, so to speak.

This also applies to a small portion of "adults" I might add. I just wish that I had some constructive advice for how to prevent it.
In the meantime, 12#, and your contemporaries, ROCK ON and don't change a thing. Sometimes the best thing to do is to just continue setting a good example.

The most "bizzare"
"disgusting" thing I ever saw was at aan Allman Brothers show in Hartford a couple years back.... two people
making love in the same area of the lawn that others were using as an outdoor latrene..
so a few displayed "boobies" is just fine with me.... but I also don't agree with the groups of drunks asking EVERY woman that walks by to flash. Its usually pretty easy to tell the flashers from the rest of the citizens

Well there ya go......
would I complain if some yahoo decided rap music was better played in the parking lot then Buffett at a Buffett concert? Naw...that would be like playing Buffett at a Snoop Doggy Dog concert...the crowd there would realize what a dope I was and pay me no mind as I pay those who play rap at Buffett.....common sense.
Not a dang thing wrong with hooters..nuttin at all.......even displaying them takes a bit of class...IMO
Smokers.....could careless..smoke if ya like..ya don't like s*** it up....gawd forbib I open a jar of peanuts and somebody passing by breaks out in hives.
young uns at a concert...I would'nt cuz I am there for the concert..not to watch my yard ape....you wanna bring em....whatever blows yer skirt up but I don't want your junior screaming in my ear, that is worse then rapp music. RRather ya smoke instead.
gettin frisky in public........easy..ya know how dumb that is...serves em right if a crowd encircles them and they wind up on the I net the next day.
Lot of this is pure common sense...no need to create rules to protect the rest of us from the dummies...we do enough of that already.
