TICKETMASTER PHONE CALL
Wondering if anyone else got a phone call. I purchased the VIP parking pass a while back and yesterday afternoon I got a call from Ticketmaster saying that would not allow anyone in to the Venue saturday unless they had tickets for the show in hand for everyone in the car or a email confirmation for Will Call tickets. They said if I didn't have tickets for the show they would refund my money for the parking pass since this was the Venues policy not theirs.
We have tickets for everyone in our group but was curious if anyone else got a phone call and if anyone who went to the Thursday show saw them checking tickets coming in the gate.

yeah....and they even hassled my sister---whose ticket was inside the parking lot with me! She came all the way from San Diego for the show, and I had purchased the tix....
They made her LEAVE the premises and wait out on Route140 until I hoofed it all the way out there from my tailgate inside to bring her her ticket!! She was the only one of us without the ticket in her hand--in a car ful of people who had tickets!
Needless to say, I was not too pleased! This kind of foolishness was ridiculous!
( ...Don't know what would have happened if we didn't have cell phones! )

that also makes it pretty well impossible for people to get rid of tickets at the last minute. we have a huge group, and someone always has to bail (usually for a good reason) on the show, but we're always able to get rid of the tickets at face value once in the parking lot. Hell, next year I was going to abandon buying tickets at all and just pick some up in the lot.
by the way, what do they do with buses? We had a huge coach bus, full of drunken parrotheads. I can't think that even half of them would cooperate with anyone who was demanding tickets or some other stupid thing.

what p*** me off the most was that I called the venue on Tuesday...the woman I spoke to swore to me that they were NOT going to be checking tickets this year as it caused too many traffic problems...I asked her 3 times and kept saying "are you SURE?"..she assured me! Caused a little trouble with our group...a little waiting at McDonalds...but at least all 6 cars went in together. I plan on calling back and letting them know how I feel!

Absolutely stupid move on the part of the venue...
I understand what they're trying for, but seems ridiculous that each person has to have their ticket beforehand.
But then, we got hassled going to the Will Call window. They had a security gate set up and asked a bunch of questions before they'd let us go to the ticket window.
That's right, just the ticket window.

Ticket Check
When we arrived for the Thurs eve show--late enough to end up at the rear of the parking lot--there was no ticket checking going on, so apparently they stopped at some point. However, based on bad experiences at other venues--especially at the Meadows in Hartford where they charge you extra for "Free Parking" but do not check tickets, so what happens is that people who are just there to party and have no tickets end up taking those spaces, while those of us with tickets who have paid for parking get shut out and end up having to pay AGAIN at a private lot--so on that basis ticket checking is not such a bad thing. However, the Meadows is so poorly run (they could take a few lessons from the nice folks at Great Woods) that our many bad experiences there just trying to get inside without a major hassle made us decide just to not go there again and make the extra effort instead to go to Mansfield.

Ya know I got that phone call, but the funny thing there were a lot of people (just like every other year) walking around looking for tickets! you can't tell they all parked and walked in the lot. I got there at noon, never even showed my tickets to anyone.

Some times I feel like a propeller, spin, spin outtta control. I don't who is up on the throttle, boy I wish they would let it go....

even after reading all the complaints, I would be happy if they did this at Irvine.
The past two years my skull & crossbones flag (and the pole it's on) has been pilfered by what my wife refers to as "parrot poachers" in the lot.
They are obviously not parrotheads and usually they are walking around trying to buy a beer or a shot off someone (although they are obviously under age) while their buddies fire up the Metallica.
10:1 odds that those PUNK-ASSES don't even have a ticket for the show..They are only there because they have heard the parking lot party is unrivaled and they know they can be irresponsible (and dishonest) without being held accountable.
If the thefts are reduced by the venue "policing" the clientele before they enter the lot, I'm all for it. I have no problem showing my tix to get in.

see, now it seems like a good idea. I go to the Alpine shows, and Alpine is a hike from most larger cities (hell, it's out in the sticks). I've never seen that happen before there, so I guess that's because you really have to WANT to get to the show to drive all the way out there.crabman wrote:even after reading all the complaints, I would be happy if they did this at Irvine.

wow. i never heard of checking for tickets. i've been lucky enough to see jimmy in pittsburgh for last several years. this was the first year two of our group didn't have tickets. i found someone here on bn that had extras and met in the lot. i think, in theory, checking tix beforehand is a good idea, but when the crowd starts coming, it gets too crazy. the traffic is at a standstill, the drinking has begun, etc...
but like what was mentioned before, it would possibly keep the non- parrotheads out. i think it's one of (many) great things about PH's, they don't steal. you set up your tailgate, you hang out, meet people, wander around come back and your stuff is still there!! every day should be a jimmy day...... well maybe not EVERY day, we need something to look forward to.

In spite of a pass into VIP parking on Thursday, we had to show tickets (well, flash them, since I flashed two from the back seat, which happened to be real tickets, but might've been anything) for everyone in the car -- and yet, I saw plenty of people near the gates trying to sell tickets. Guess I don't understand this system, but, in all fairness, it didn't take that long to get past the people checking tickets in the parking lot, and we were able to "keep up" with the others in our party.
I still have mixed feelings about this policy -- MAY keep out some riff-raff who JUST want to get drunk and roll in there to party, but not entirely fair to those (like moog) who might've wanted to just get a ticket. I've got no answers, and, as usual, I think that the GW personnel run a damned nice venue.
