Might as well close this loop (belt) with a reference to Jerry Jeff Walker who performed The Dutchman (Steve does it better) at the Stephen Talkhouse this summer on a bill I thought JB would show up for. Maybe next year they will share a stage; but I hope this year for the Cubs! :-)

Upon reflection I think that it's JC & Steve who were more similar artists. Their voices sound close r and if you ever heard JC do "Ball of Kerrymuir" you know Steve had the "Balls" to do it justice too.

Steve Goodman -DVD

Post by Goodman »

I want to thank those of you- Conched/EJR , who suggested I get the DVD. I've watched the ACL portion and it was fascinating. He made two references to JB doing his tunes- Banana Republic and Elvis Imitators. Jimmy & the CRB performed the latter as Freddie & the Fishsticks.

Gotta say I like Steve's version better. John Prine was there in Austin to perform "Souvenirs" with Steve (not to be confused with Jimmy and Mac doing a tune with the same name). I also liked Steve's version of "This Hotel Room" better than JB's cover. Steve indicates he stole the melody.

Can't wait to watch the rest.

Good intresting stuff, glad to know the details, I'm never sure about Coe myself, but somehow he has created his own style, which I appreciate. When i hear his songs they stick in my mind, much like JB's. I'm going to check out some of Steve's music. Thanks again.

John Prine (whose concerts are always worth attending) still does Souvenirs live, always dedicating it to Goodman.

Check out his Live Sessions at West 54th DVD.
